Where did I say the number is wrong? Notice I didn't. I simply stated mine haven't changed, then asked for anyone (still waiting) to give me an example where theirs DID. No one has yet.
I am trying to understand where they arrived at that number. If several people on here were to tell me that their wages rose by anything even close to that I'd be more inclined to believe it. My own experience is that wages are still relatively flat.

But here's the thing. Your wages could be stagnant, and actually so could everyone else's, and average wages could increase if new people were hired in at higher wages. Let's say we have 10,000 people making $10/hour and their wages stay flat. But let's say we add 1,000 at $15/hour. The new average rate would be $10.45, a 4.5% increase. I'm not saying that's exactly what happened, but my guess is that it's a part of it.

And for the record, mine has increased 3.4% in the last year.

Thank you, Owl, for providing a response that makes me think and that shows someone who has had theirs rise. Thanks to this explanation I can dig a little into that number armed with both a real world scenario and a real life example.

Was that so hard for any of the rest of you? No...but it's easier to throw out ad hominem attacks, generalizations, and blanket statements to paint with your broad brush.

like any 'averaging' there are some that are depressed based on demographic conditions...

My wife will get a merit raise this year...and the top it can be is 3%. Decent. But it'll probably be somewhere nearer to 2.5%.

If here is 2.5 and mine is 0, our wages rose 1.25%, not even close to the average.

I haven't raised existing pricing to original customers....

however, my employees make 10% more since I began...and I pay straight cash

how do I make that up you may ask......I cull the weaklings and charge more for new acquisitions as time moves forward....

hell, even during my stint in corp 'murica my least annual raise amount was 5%.....when I gave HR da finga for my exit interview, my boss (who was located in York, PA) asked, "I can't offer you more to stay, can I?""

it took 3 dipshites to replace what I was doing at that time....

I got my annual raise last month, that will hit my paycheck on April 19th. It was around 2% this year.

That being said, I've worked here for 20+ years and have gotten a raise every year but 1. They usually average between 1 and 3%.

So mine really has nothing to do with policies of trump, Obama or anyone else in DC.

As far as how this number is calculated, I'm sure you can probably find an explanation on Google somewhere.

My wages and benefits have been stagnant for several years. I am 3 years from retirement and will just have to live with it. It would be next to impossible to find a comparable job at my age without moving to another area...which I am not doing.
