latest rumor on the new hog coach...
is Greg Marshall. Obviously would be a very good hire. Why would he leave Wichita State now? Maybe he is just angling for a raise, although he already makes 3.5 million. I guess we'll see soon enough. Of course, Wally and all the other "experts" never mentioned Marshall, at least, this time around. He was a "hotter" name in the past, but he hasn't lost the ability to coach.

RE: latest rumor on the new hog coach...
Well, reportedly Marshall turned the hogs down- if any of this was true. The latest is that Chris Beard is there #1 and has been all along. Warren Stephens is supposedly willing to chip in 2 million a year, for Beard, and no one else. I'm sure he could afford it with no trouble at all. But, why wouldn't he have chipped in a half-million or so to keep Chris coaching in his dad's arena a few years back. At that time, a million dollar contract probably would have kept him here for, at least, a couple of years.

Hog fans online and on the radio, keep saying if they offer Chris 6 million, he would definitely take it if TT could only go up to 5 million or so. I'm just not sure money is everything for Chris. He was probably make 60K or so, at a Division II school, 5 years ago. He is making more money than he ever dreamed of making. I obviously wouldn't know, but is there really any difference in your life style if you make 5 vs. 6 million a year? I think for some coaches it is simply "ego" to want to be paid more than just about everyone else in the business. Chris seems pretty down to earth and I'm just not sure he thinks that way.

I've never heard we came close to a million. I think his original offer at UNLV was just a little above a million.

Let's say we offered $5M for 5 years. Unlv reportedly offered roughly $6.8M over 5 years. In my book an extra 1.8M is significant. Some of that is incentive pay, but I think it is safe to say he would have triggered the incentive es.

At some point, enough money (like $6 million a year) might be enough to get Beard to come to Fayetteville. But then, let's say TT says we will give you $4 million/year. Although the $6 million looks fantastic on the front end, how quick of a trigger comes with it if you don't tear up the SEC? On the other hand, at TT, Beard has taken them to heights they have never been, so the cushion is a lot more on the axe. And, his daughters are close there. I'd be willing to bet Beard stays at TT!

He left UNLV after JUST TWO WEEKS! To go to TT. If that doesn't tell you something nothing will. What school lets their FIRST Final Four coach go? And what if he wins it all? Signing day is April 17. Arkansas is not doing itself any favors waiting on a coach who is going to use them for another raise AGAIN. Neither Musselman or Marshall have taken their names out of the search. They should pick one of those guys and move on. They will be looking again in 4 years anyway.

Still don't see why Marshall would go to Fayetteville. Musselman would be getting a huge raise, so he would probably go. He would be a pretty good hire from what I can tell. Not sure what LSU is going to do with Wade. If that opens up, I bet he would go there instead (he was an assistant at LSU in the past). UCLA might give him a look as well.
