I thought you could declare with the option of returning to school only once, but I guess he can do it twice.

No surprise, really. Hope to see him back.

I thought you could only declare and hold the option of coming back once, as well. Well, apparently that isn't the case and, in this case..., more power to him. I'd love to see him come back but if he's got a chance to get paid, he has to take it.

RE: German declares
I thought German took a big step forward this season in terms of NBA potential in that he developed an intermediate pull up threat. Not sure if it's quite NBA ready yet, but I have a feeling he has played his last game as a Huskie

So, I may have found some clarity on his situation. IIRC, he didn't go all the way with the draft last year. He made himself draft eligible or something in order to test the water, but removed himself from consideration before the workouts and draft which never kicked in the "1 time to declare" rule. This year, with literally nothing to lose as a junior, he's more than likely to go through the entire process and if he doesn't get something (anything...like I'm including G-League and maybe even a professional overseas job) then he'd be eligible to come back to NIU.

But like MD said, I think he's played his last game in college.

Not a bad idea. Exhaust all your options and if things don’t work out come back. Finish your degree and you’re still on scholarship. It’s a Win Win situation for him.

RE: German declares
The questions German has to maker are:
1. is he ready to go to the D-League? Will he develop better in D-League?
2. How close is he to finish his degree at NIU? Does he come back to graduate?

He was 2nd team all-Mac he isn’t getting drafted. No general manager would Stick his neck out and draft him. There isn’t enough spots to take a chance on him. Invite him to a camp if you want but no one will draft him. Go back to NIU and finish as one of the greatest Huskies of all time then go try out for the NBA.

RE: German declares
He needs to come back and improve his point guard skills. He had a few games this year where he had 4 or 5 assists but he needs to do that on a consistent basis. There aren't many 6 foot shooting guards in the NBA and the only ones they are going to look at score about 30 points a game with a consistent outside shot.

Does it matter anymore in the NBA who brings the ball up the floor? Its not like they do any offensive sets where the PG would be required to make plays run. Tbh, his game is pretty well suited to the NBA right now. It's his size that would cause concern because he already gets his shot blocked a lot in the MAC. That would triple in the NBA. He simply cannot challenge a bunch of guys who are all 6'5" and bigger. Now, the developement of his outside and mid-range shot (although, the mid-range shot has become something of a pariah in the NBA with some teams lately, so that might not be as valuable to teams as one might think) has really helped his stock.

RE: German declares
After watching lots of basketball this past March, there’s a bunch of good point guards and all have flaws. I would challenge you all to name 10 point guards in the NCAA right now that are better than him......In my opinion he’s a better scorer than most. He may not be the full package but he brings it every night.

I can swap German with at least 3 players on this list. Just because your program has more talent to distribute to doesn’t make you better. To name one Tre Jones great defender and player but can’t knock down a 3. Not hard to get assist to Zion and Barrett. The only thing that separates German from some of these guys is the Jersey he’s wearing. Remember...... nobody knew who Abdel Nader was until he ditched us for Iowa State. Was drafted in the NBA.

That’s both fine and fair, but if you replace him over eight of the 20 listed he’s not playing NBA ball. I think the most encouraging stat Geno has is his 41% from 3—but how does that equate with a deeper line in the NBA and much better defense from the NBA? He can make a fair living overseas if basketball is all he wants to do. Staying at NIU would be nice for us to watch, but realistically can he improve his NBA stock by playing another year here——he’s not going to be a first rounder—or second rounder.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m rooting for Sutton to make an NFL roster. I’m guessing Geno is wayyy down the list of PG’s. I’d be more surprised if he actually made an NBA roster.

Go overseas play for quite a few years and earn some $

Even if he comes back our basketball team is not poised for a March madness run.
