Not super related to ODU directly but definitely an in-state hoops impact. Buzz Williams is leaving VT for TAMU.

Coach Buzz Williams leaving VT

I really liked Buzz and appreciated what he did for the Hokie Basketball program. I remember watching him from afar at Marquette as well. I wonder how this affects VT's recruiting, it seemed like he was a coach the players loved to play for

Too bad for the Hokies. I like Buzz too. Good coach, did good things there.

WOrst kept secret in history. This was known 6 months ago. Thats a blow for VT. I think they are going to go after Marshall or Wojo. If I was them, I would look at Willard/Cooley as well.

Seems like a lateral move for Willard over the long term. VT probably has more extra money to throw at him though.

I know the Big East a a top basketball conference, but I would assume joining the ACC is hard to turn down for most sports

Yes. Their bball facilities are better than VTs. They have a better recruiting area. And they don't have to play in the ACC.

I suspect it's an AD thing; the coach before didn't play CAA state schools either. When Dave Blaine was AD, he told the VCU AD that they'd always play in basketball after the Metro/CUSA shitshow. That did not come to pass.

No clue what their deal is. You think they'd like to get to Norfolk, Richmond and D.C. on a semiregular basis to fly the flag in front of their many alumni there.

Yeah, instead of VT trying to get better, they just scheduled weaker. I think it'd be a good series to start back up...would be good for both schools. I kind of wish we'd use some of WKUs tactics and schedule hoops games when scheduling the buy football games vs power 5 teams.

If I am not mistaken we have won 6 of the last 8 and 4 of the last 5.

But it's not just ODU, it's everyone in the state that isn't Virginia or a tomato can.
