I want to thank Jon Alger, Jeff Bourne, and Charlie King for making sufficient funds available to host the WNIT. Without their support, it is unlikely that we could have beaten VA Tech in Blacksburg. I think it is terrific that JMU is willing to outbid Tech for a post season tournament game.

Thanks for posting, great information on the process.

So while JMU was not willing to match the ridiculous offer from VT for KB......JMU Admin and JMU Athletic Department was willing to make a bigger commitment to the team and actual student-athletes than VT was to ensure home games. Well done Jeff Bourne & Charlie King!!!!!!!

I can’t believe you actually feel this way. I guess no good deed goes unpunished. On these boards, even something done right gets twisted into a wrong.

Huh? I was giving kudos to Bourne and Kind for doing what they could to support this team to ensure as many home games as possible. Not sure what I twisted up for you, but of well...my bad.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought your post started with a criticism of JMU not matching VTs offer so I interpreted the rest of the post as sarcasm.

Absolutely not I was being straight......if VT wanted to pay that kind of money for a wbball coach more power to them. It's all good. Just funny that VT would overpay for a coach and then not bid enough to secure home games, that is an odd one.

Maybe they had a home and garden show scheduled or maybe with the men playing in the sweet 16 and fans traveling, possible coaching changes, they may have decided to take a pass on hosting the women's NIT. I think we had more attendance than they would have had at their place.

You notice the Home and Garden show is now held at the county fairgrounds. I think the convo became unavailable after that 2012 schedule conflict.

Way too much was made out of that home and garden show issue in 2012. JMU worked to get the thing rescheduled more than once so they could host, but eventually hit a drop dead date that the Home and Garden show would not move again. It was a situation that had not been encountered before and the Home & Garden folks has a contract and were nice enough to reschedule once or twice.

That's what we did several seasons ago. Every time I tried to get good seats it was, "You can't have those, we don't allow a single vacant seat between seats." We went general for the whole season and have been doing it ever since. Stupid policy. If they want more money they're going to have to drop that.

What I was most disappointed about was that the condition of Godwin had deteriorated to the point it could not have been used. If the playing floor, locker rooms, pull-out grandstands etc. had been serviceable it would have made for a super environment and veritable walk-down memory lane for many fans. Godwin packed with 5k would have been glorious, and I bet JMU might have beaten OkSt in that kind of gym.

Kind of a neat story, as stated, too bad it didn't play out.

OK St had 6,100 fans at the championship game. It may have been more hosting $$ and attendance than it than we think. Even if Godwin were satisfactory condition to switch it to basketball, the WNIT wouldn't have opted for us when they could go to OK and get the $$$$$. Had the convo been available we probably wouldn't have gotten the bid; we only had 4,000 attend the Syracuse win in the semis that year. We'll probably never know, plus it was 7 years ago. Bring on Northwestern! Go TCU!

I fully expect JMU to beat N'western. They are just not that talented. A tired Ohio university team basically handed them the game. Ohio led almost the whole game--then made several turnovers. JMU should have received an NCAA at large bid. Best to your team -- I hope you win it all!!

Appreciate you saying this, but frankly with the injuries we had during the CAA tournament and the first game of the NIT we'd have been out really quick. We're still playing down a starter, it's taken a lot of scratching and clawing to get this far in the NIT. This was the right place for us this year, even if we were the strongest in the CAA. We'll make a run in the NCAA next season, book it!

Thanks, unfortunately our team is tired and chinked up too going into the 35th game of a long season. I hope you are right, though.

It's Game Day!!!!!!!!!!! I hope many of you will be at the Convo tonight cheering on the Dukes, but if you cannot be here, please watch on Madizone and send your good vibes to the ladies over the internet.

I looked at the Game Notes yesterday and the teams appear to be pretty evenly matched from a statistics point of view. Hopefully the home court advantage will be in full force and we send these women back to Illinois with a loss!!!

Go Dukes!

RE: Northwestern @ JMU Wednesday 7pm, WNIT semifinal
If you play the odds, the Dukes are likely heading to Arizona for the WNIT championship if we win tonight. The TCU-Zona game tips at 9:30pmET so I'm guessing it will be near midnight before the WNIT advises the location of the title game. Obviously, we've got to win first for it to matter.

Considering this is the most likely scenario, I'd love to see the following...

1. First, we win of course - even if by 1 point in quadruple OT if that's what it takes.
2. Getting greedy I admit, but if we have a nice lead late in the game I'd love to see Coach O orchestrate taking Logan and Aneah out strategically so the fans can give them one helluva loud standing O to show their appreciation to these 2 seniors.

I know they had their Senior Day and all already. And, I think many of us expected - or at least hoped - that was going to be their last game at the Convo at the time. Tonight provides another opportunity to say thanks and hopefully with a larger crowd.

Good luck to the Dukes tonight!!!

RE: Northwestern @ JMU Wednesday 7pm, WNIT semifinal
A little off topic, but some motivation from the MBB NIT side...

...3 thousand student population mid-major Lipscomb knocked off Wichita State last night in Madison Square Garden to advance to tomorrow night's championship game against 50,000+ student population Texas.

Last time MBB had mid-major(s) in the championship game was 2016, when George Washington defeated Valparaiso. Coincidentally, that is also the last time WBB had mid-majors in the WNIT championship game which saw South Dakota defeat Florida Gulf Coast. South Dakota defeated Oregon in the semifinal, while FGCU defeated Michigan it its semifinal game.
