Cheating
PTJR you have a son in the "business". Is it simply a poorly kept secret that all the big schools pay players or is it not as bad as many believe? No doubt some cheat, but is it limited to a few bad apples or is it simply necessary for coaches at P5 schools to cheat in order to be competitive with their peers?

Like Beilein, I think there are plenty of power five coaches that abide by the rules. But the FBI has certainly shed some light on some of the dirty underbelly. There is a reason Wade at LSU isn't talking to his employers. His attorneys are probably telling him to worry more about jail than keeping his job there.

But I certainly don't have any special insight into this more than anyone else. At the mid to lower levels it certainly appears that the vast majority abide by the rules.

I haven't followed the details of the Will Wade story, but it seems clear he was involved in the paying of players. While clearly against NCAA rules, is it actually against the law to pay players who are making millions of dollars for their universities?

Yes. Since all public schools receive federal dollars to operate, being involved in solicitations of bribes, etc. by an person using his position as an employee of those institutions is a federal crime. I don't know offhand of any private institutions are involved in this scandal, but they might also be included since most, if not all of them accept federal money in some fashion.

I don't think it's so much the paying players as much as it is the bribes to the shoe guys to get them to come.
