I just think we're all in survival mode until the P5 media contracts start expiring in the mid 2020s, especially with the SEC now committed to basketball and willing to spend and commit whatever resources necessary to get that done. Our new $7M AAC deal keeps us on life support for the time being.

In the meantime, we are extremely fortunate to have Penny. He's not just another random national coach building a career. He's already rich and has his own shoeline, lol.
He's coached Memphis Middle School and High Schools to State Championships. He has a pact with the late Dez Merriweather.

He has a vision specifically for Memphis, and it's personal for him to represent the legacy of Merriweather and the pact they made to win Memphis a Championship.

That personal relationship is something money can't divide. But Cal makes $9.6M a year now.

Yep, just look at UALR, then look at what he did with Tubby's players, and THEN what he did with player turnover at TxTech. One of the best coaches in the country.

There is no way I would ever allow my father to do that for me. Basically it is a nationwide neon sign saying I am a failure and need my father to do something like this just so I can work. That is the number 1 reason I know Saul was a piece of crap. All the heat his father took from pretty much every fan in Memphis and piece of crap Saul didn't bat an eye. Just went on about his lazy, minimalist life as usual.

His daughter has a job there too—director of external operations for the team. He and his family are very much entrenched.

Has it ever worked , I wonder. Could be a first.
