Yes to argue this is not a rebuild is insane. New Coach, lost defensive impact players, new QB, new offense. If NIU goes 6-6 this year, Hammock deserves coach of the year, no doubt about that (6-6 considering non-conf schedule is one of most difficult in nation).

I'd like to bet $10,000 on the over 6 wins.

He can make the throws if our O line gives him time to complete them.

I have no idea what to expect this year but I am excited about the Hammock era and I will wait to fully evaluate him until years 3 -4 when he has the opportunity to get players that he recruits and develops on the field and in his system.

Last year now one was afraid of our QB passing the ball down field. With Bowers, we have that threat. They won't put 9 in box with a good passer.

I’ve tried betting him many times in the past. Never wants to take a bet because he knows very well that the stuff he spews out is over the top and false. Make crazy comments, them back em up MD!

THIS. Our RBs just became even better and we have a solid group

Thata true but coaching was the biggest part of the passing game not being a factor. Last year to me was the time to strike given the power five defense NIU had and also the incredible offensive line that is totally rebuilt. A team with a new offense, new QB, new offensive line, loss of defensive playmakers, will historically struggle. the saving grace for NIU could be the MAC is slightly down. I think the non conf is going to be some of the hardest football watching Huskie fans had had in over 20 years. I like the direction though. NiU was headed to a dead end and this course correction was desperately needed

My prop bet would be by Dec we should have at least 2 guys with 1,000 rushing yards.

A little bit of a surprising stat, but as far as I could find NIU has had only 1 season since 1968 in which two players rushed for 1,000+ yards. Several times they came very close. Can you guess who?

Off the top of my head, Jordan Lynch and Jasmin Hopkins?

In 2000, Hammock cleared 1,000 yards and Turner came up just short.

A freshman walk on and a Indiana transfer....I actually liked the potential of Fieldler...he was in no way supposed to start at all....but I saw him play in ha, and he looked pretty good for Lyons Township

Remember, Bowers is a RS Junior with two years left. He has played/Practiced at D1 level for 3 years. He is different from a highly touted freshman as he knows the speed of the game.

This statement gets me excited. Competition is good, and either Childers steps up another level (or two) or Bowers grabs the wheel

Two comments that add up to one solid common sense observation. Kudos.

Give me 6.5 and I'll bet you 50 bucks.

NIU is going 1-3 in non conf in all likelihood so to win more than 6 NIU would have to go 6-2 in MAC. Too much parity to have NIU at 6 conf wins this year, especially with the road Bobcat revenge game.looming along with a trip to Toledo.

Sorry! But Huskies have won at Toledo so many times as of late this game is just as likely to be a Huskie victory as a loss.
