This. It sounds like a visit, but a step in the right direction.

He might already have approval for a medical waiver which would allow him to transfer without sitting out and get his 6th year. That'd be awesome.

I believe he's graduated so he wouldn't be sitting out regardless, he'll get this upcoming fifth year condition-free. It's 2020 where the medical waiver comes into play.

I don't think the NCAA hears cases on sixth-year medical waivers until the fifth year has been exhausted or is due to expire. Again, I may be wrong. He may already have the "green light" on the 2020 season.

Who knows if he'll even want it. After NIU defeats Alabama and Clemson this upcoming year to win the CFPlayoff, he may decide to turn pro.

It looks like his Dad’s buddies are congratulating him. My guess is that they aren’t doing that for a visit and our coaching staff isn’t retweeting it for a visit but i guess we’ll see.

Here is Bowers transfer announcement:

Sure sounds like he's received approval for a sixth year.

Nice.

Also, I agree that the congrats being delivered seem to indicate a commitment rather than just a campus visit. Hopefully, there is an official statement put out by NIU soon.

Yes... also his Dad's tweet is pinned. Highly unlikely a visit would be pinned.

Also, great to see from Ross' statement about 2 years of eligibility. Excited!!!

Spencer Tears and crew have to be salivating at the idea of a pro-style quarterback who will be throwing the ball all around the yard on campus.

Pretty excited with the 2 year thing!! NiU needs to get back to pro style anyway. It takes special athletes to be consistently successful with the offense NIU was running. Getting a transfer from a power conference has to help open some eyes on the recruiting trail

Based off recruiting rankings and playing at a power 5 school, is this the highest touted QB NIU will ever have coming to Dekalb? Awesome news

Maybe I'm asking too much, or this isn't the way it's done, or whatever. I just don't want the whole thing to come tumbling down if Bowers says at the last minute that he's signed with XYZ University. I would think there would be something more than his dad's tweet to go on. Or did I miss something?

Our beat writer for the DC, Kaleb Carter, just confirmed it. Bowers will be a Huskie

ESPN Scouting Report

OVERALL TRAITS
Size-Strength-Mobility
Possesses frame development upside with nice height and a lanky frame that will only get bigger and stronger. Is still growing into his frame. Limited strength at this stage. Mobility is excellent, very savvy with initial quickness to evade and even be counted on as a designated runner if need be. Shows savvy within the pocket and can extend plays.

Mental-Makeup
Shows a riverboat gamblers mentality. A quiet confidence. Tough and resourceful within the pocket. Keep his eyes downfield and shows command under duress. Escapes only if need be, otherwise stands in the face of the rush. Works through progressions and will buy time to locate WRs late. Games show a highly competitive feel for the game.

Accuracy
When set and balanced, he is very sound in this area. Can get a bit erratic with second reaction throws that cause him to get out of rhythm. Is at his best when on time and in sync with the pattern. Can lead WRs on crossing routes and routes to the sidelines. When he drives of back foot and transfers weight properly he gets the most out of his accuracy. Has great touch underneath and changes ball speeds nicely.

Release/Arm Strength
This is an area where he reminds us so much of Derek Carr coming out of high school. Better-than-average arm quickness with a compact, overhead release point. Does show the ability to speed the ball up or slow it down on throws between the numbers that require some zip. Delivery mechanics are loose and smooth and he is capable of quickly dispersing the ball. There are times when the ball jumps off his hand and he is capable of fitting the ball into tight spots. Increased bulk and strength to his frame should only enhance vertical arm power.

Bottom Line
This kid is flying way under the radar in our opinion. There are a lot of tools here and he has a very high ceiling for development. Best football is ahead of him and his recruitment should only increase through the fall. Bowers may be affected by regional location. If he was in another area of the country, he'd be on more boards.

Underclassman Eval
STRENGTHS: A physically-built player with enough athleticism to occasionally beat you with the run. He gets a good amount of velocity on short-range throws, and has the zip to hit the gap in time on medium-range throws. Always keeps his eyes downfield, even when he's on the run. ... AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Can sometimes be a risk-taker, and he needs to do a better job of hitting receivers on the shoulder - something that will come with getting more reps. It would suit him to improve on selling his play action fake. ... BOTTOM LINE: Bowers has all the tools to play college football at the highest level. With an above average arm, adequate mobility, and the poise to tune out what's going on around him, he'll be heavily recruited as he improves his accuracy and mechanics.

Should have been in Dekalb, but Phillips didn't want to piss off his buddies at Notre Dame< Ended up as a LB At Cincy.
