Kelvin Sampson
Most fans on Hogville, and some do seem to be folks in the "know", seem convinced that Sampson is their next coach and the "deal" has been done for a while. If not, they believe it will be Chris Beard. Seems like we have a pretty good source on this board, making it clear that it won't be Chris. No doubt Sampson is a very good coach, but hiring a coach who will be 64, before next season starts, and has been caught violating NCAA rules twice (not only is he a cheater, but he is not good at it) seems to be a rather desperate move. I am also not sure that some "oil men" in Houston won't raise the money to keep him there before this is over. This may be "Gus Malzahn" all over again. It will be interesting to watch.

Tilman Fertitta is the chairman of the UH Board of Regents and the owner of the Houston Rockets. He was quoted saying money will not be a problem when it comes to keeping Sampson.

Like you, I don't think Fayetteville will get either Beard or Sampson, now that the big money in Houston has come out. No matter what the slush fund up in Fayetteville has, it can't compete with the big dough in Houston if it wants to back UH.

However I am curious about your statements about Sampson and cheating. Seems to me you were more than willing to give Bruce Pearl a pass on his cheating. And what Sampson did is now legal. What Pearl did is not. Why the double standard?

Didn't think having kids over for a barbeque was that big a deal.

Although illegal, I'd agree that having kids over for a BBQ is not that big of a deal. It was Pearl's efforts to cover up his cheating from the NCAA that got him in the most trouble. Sampson called kids on the phone. So is that a big deal to you? As far as I know, Sampson didn't do anything to ask people to cover up his actions to hide them from the NCAA. Clear double standard on your part because you like Pearl.

I have nothing against Sampson. Just don't think a big time program would take a chance on him at this point.

Houston is looking pretty big time at the moment! Big time programs will hire whoever they think will win. See Auburn!

RE: Kelvin Sampson
I would have said ole Brucie is headed to the Final Four until one of his best players got hurt tonight. Still might do it. He's a heck of a coach.

Folks on Hogville are now totally convinced that they get Coach Sampson. I'd say he was "Malzahning" them, but he and Yurachek are supposedly good friend so I doubt he is doing that. Still, he may yet have second thoughts if Houston comes up with the money. Mike Irwin says this was being planned for weeks and even Anderson knew about it since he knows Sampson. But, I also remember Malzhan being a done deal and Billy Gillespie being a done deal, and Dana Altman being the coach for 24 hours. So I wouldn't place a bet one way or the other.

RE: Kelvin Sampson
It can be argued that Sampson's violations were "not that big a deal", but doing it at a second school, after promising not to, does say something about his character. Based on this, I would guess that telling Arkansas he is interested in order to get a raise at Houston, would certainly be something he might do. Jeff Goodman is strongly suggesting this on Twitter this morning. It's hard to imagine Arkansas getting "Malzahned" again, but it is certainly possible. With Sampson out of the tournament, this should come to a head real soon.
