I’ve been here WAAAAY before this guy was a blip on the political radar. First POTUS I would pass on meeting and would actually like to fight if I didn’t respect the office.

Guilty as charged :)

And I apologize to you.

To clarify, however.

I did not interpret your prior posts through "politically colored glasses".

I interpreted them through glasses (overly) tinted with extreme cynicism.

Like many on this board (and elsewhere), I have NO admiration for Donald Trump

Unlike many on this board (and elsewhere), I see him as differing very little (if at all) from the GREAT majority of other politicians.

In the beginning I naively thought there was a chance he might gain some traction with his (stated) plan to "drain the swamp".

Of course, the outcome was inevitable, and he has become the swamp.

The swamp is simply not drainable.

It is no coincidence that Trump is hated by those on the left, AND by those on the right. Though...some/many on the right are willing to acknowledge and work with him because it is in their (self-centered) political interest.

What HAS amazed me has been the willingness of the opposition party, much of the electorate, and the majority of the mainstream press to weaponize the federal government (including law enforcement) in an attempt to remove a duly elected president from office.

Before the election, during a "debate", Chris Wallace asked Trump if he would accept the outcome of the election, no matter the results. His answer was "we'll see". Hillary shook her head and smirked. Chris Wallace pushed him on his answer. And much of the press commented in disbelief.

Well….Trump won.

And Hillary and the Democrats launched this hoax called "Russiagate"

Now, Mueller, 19 attorneys, 40 FBI agents, intelligence analysts, forensic accountants, and many others have concluded that there was no collusion or conspiracy.

Like clockwork, the political opposition (and much of the press) now clings to the narrative.

Hoping that there is something in the Mueller report that might suggest “obstruction”. Obstruction to cover up a crime that didn’t/doesn’t exist.

ANYTHING to get Donald Trump out of office, or to hurt him politically.

Donald Trump isn’t the problem. He is a symptom of the problem.

Ideology is the problem.

We (the American electorate) don't seem to realize that we never get what we want. We get what we deserve.

Donald Trump is what we deserve.

I will continue to eat on my proverbial popcorn, and watch as this political theater plays out.

Meanwhile….I would (humbly) suggest that we all pay less attention to these a$$holes in DC. And less attention to the talking heads. They simply are not going to (materially) affect our lives. And they don't give a $hit about you or me.

Look to your family, and friends, and significant others, and look within (or to your God) for meaning and peace.

Ideology will fail you every time.

Enough of the categories. Enough of the boundaries.

To the extent that your neighbor is in need or suffering, get off of the couch, and leave your spot from behind the computer.

And make a difference.

Because you never know what tomorrow will bring.

My 2 cents...

Nice post!

So many on this board, and in the media and Democratic Party, still do not understand, or accept, the reason Trump was elected in the first place.

This article from the L.A. Times featuring Joe Biden highlights it best. I post not to praise Biden's current campaign (he's too old and Trump would beat him), but he hit the nail on the head with talk of reaching out to the working middle class. Hillary did not do it. The current Dem leadership - and candidates - are not doing it.

https://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-p...story.html

Yes, Trump is a moron, but the issue of rampant illegal immigration on our southern boarder is real, and immoral. Neither Bill Clinton, George W Bush, or Obama did anything about it, and the current Democrats seems to encourage it (irresponsibly wanting to do away with ICE). Trump's wall is a legit issue that most of the current Dem leadership has expressed support for, prior to Trump's election.

Middle classworkers want the wall, they are scared of losing their jobs to illegals (right or wrong). The Dems do not care.

Middle class workers are also scared of unfair trade with China. Again, none of our three previous presidents did anything about it. Right or wrong, Trump is talking the talk and walking the walk. You don't think workers hear that? Meanwhile, Dems are talking about allowing 16-year-olds to vote and gender neutral bathrooms

The GM plant closure issue is a non-issue in my book (keeping plants open to make cars people do not want to buy is one of the reasons GM needed a government bailout) but Trump's response - and *****'n - registers v-e-r-y well with workers. Unlike previous presidents, he's trying to do something for them. Meanwhile, the Dems are pushing thousands of high paying jobs out of Brooklyn and are proud of it.

Then look at the Kavanaugh hearings. Gads, the Dems attempted to destroy the man based on a 30-year-old ALLEGATION that had z-e-r-o facts or background to support. The man had been through 6 FBI background checks (which are nothing, if not thorough) and it would have been impossible to keep such an assault, let alone multiple assaults, secret. Opposing his nomination for ideological reasons was perfectly fair, attempting to destroy his reputation with a smear job with allegations that had zero credibility was stupid. Don't think middle class workers don't see through that? They do.

I do not want four more years of the Trump Administration. But until the Democratic Party can grow-up and understand why Trump won in 2016, it will not beat him. 2020 will be 1972 all over again.

Trump's line "America will never be a Socialist country" was a line-in-the-sand and entirely accurate. Unfortunately, the Dems do not get it and Trump will get reelected as a result.

Dear ess and Gull Lake,
Many of your statements are incorrect. When we as a nation have someone like Trump as our president, whether duly elected or not, it is the duty of every American to do everything we can to get him out of office.

No, they are not.

But give credit where credit is due, Trump and his supporters won the White House. His nomination by the GOP should have been a gift to the Democrats...than they nominated possibly the most corrupt and inept candidate in the history of America who somehow made Trump look like a viable alternative (please read the LA Times article I linked).

Now, the Democrats are in the process of doing it all over again. Trump has his solid base, like it or not, and Democrats need independents and moderate Republicans to win. That is not gonna happen with a socialist candidate/platform. 2020 is shaping up to be 1972 all over again.

Film at 11.

Dear GullLake,
Trump only has about 35% of the people of this country that will stand by him in 2020. That is not enough to get him re-elected. Michigan is not going to vote for him again, and others like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania won't either. So, you are dreaming if you think your man will win in 2020.

Of course polls showed Trump could not be elected in 2016 either.

Yep, never underestimate the power of a cult.

Especially a mouth breathing one where fear, ignorance and hate holds them together. They’ll ALWAYS have that.
