My vote is for Deez Nuts. The name alone will draw thousands of new fans.

I heard Buckhantz doing play by play on TV for Hoyas basketball against UNCG and our next coach Wes Miller.

Would take Wes in a NY second. He just started a 300k 10 year contract. In my opinion he would be worth 500-600k contract at JMU. No necessarily a splash hire, but one hell of a quality hire.

If we go down the x-player route again he is one I would be excited about.

Pretty sure he has family still living in the valley, and would likely entertain it. Not sure if he'd immediately draw the fans back, but seems solid.

Yes, I mentioned him last year during the big debate of whether to retain Rowe at the end of last season. I have been following him and UNCG the last couple seasons. I think he will end up at a place much better than JMU and the CAA, but if he can get us back to the top of the CAA first, it would be great.

I'm confident he would be successful at JMU. He could make this existing freshman class a top 100 team for each of the next three seasons.

Miller would a 9 or 10 (outa 10) hire in my opinion. It would be awesome.

Of course he left JMU due to a poor decision the current administration made while he was here. I believe the story was he was pissed when Dillard was retained.

It is worth noting that Wes himself had .500 and below seasons for the first 5 years he was coaching. His past 3 have been very very good. Something clicked for him at UNCG in 2016. Before that, it didn't look so great.

Was just about to post this. Not interested in arguing about this with anyone but funny how he wasn’t an instant success at UNCG either. Different situations but something to keep in mind 07-coffee3

Very different. Wes took over partial season year one. He was really not ready to coach yet, but the situation dictated giving him the job mid-season to cause less ripples in the season. His first year he inherited a team that had lost 11 straight games and that team went on to win the conference under Wes. He was the youngest head coach in all of Men's basketball at the time. Yes, his 2 through 4 seasons were not good, but 4 of his 7 years he finished with at least 10 conference wins and his last 2 seasons his teams have really excelled. Wes actually was coach of the year in his first season.

Lou took over at 43, Wes took over mid-season at the age of 28. That's a big difference. And once again - does anyone think we are well coached or see improvement?

Sagarins:

For Lou

2017 = #228
2018 = #230
2019 = #265
2020 = #249 (current)

For Wes
2012 = #281
2013 = #303
2014 = #304
2015 = #295
2016 = #251
2017 = #151
2018 = #101
2019 = #96
2020 = #70 (current)

Lou's results have dropped off from what Brady had.

Wes took over a bad program midway through the season at age 28.

"Different situations" - I agree with.

Wes has moved UNCG the last three years to where I believe JMU should be - A top 100 program. Top 100 for JMU is a very reasonable expectation.

I'm not certain Lou is the answer, but those Sagarin numbers don't support the argument that Wes was better his first 3 years. It wasn't until Wes's 5th year that the numbers moved at all, and the real improvement was after that.

He would be a really good get for JMU. Not much doubt in my mind. He is destined for bigger things and may just stay at UNCG until a bigger school calls him. He may have been coach at Wake this year, but Wake decided not to pay the tremendous buyout to Danny Manning. I hope JMU contacts and can get him to come back and return us to the top of the CAA.

His nonconference schedule has been strong and what I want to see from JMU, and he has already beaten NCState and Georgetown. NIT or NCAA the last 3 seasons and likely again this season.

A bigger name could be brought in, but Wes would be a good one.

I agree if that is the only bit of info you use. But if you then consider Wes was inserted as the head coach at age 28 midway through the season. Youngest head coach and also taking over midseason - are two HUGE considerations for Wes.

And in Wes' first four seasons he did have a conference COY award - has Lou been anywhere close to that any season?

And also - because you point to coaches that have improved after year four does not mean all of them will. Let's look at JMU's prior three basketball coaches.

Brady's first few years were his best. The additional years on his extension did not get the program to where it should be.

Dean Keener was released after his 4th year. Did we drop the ball and actually should of extended him?

Dillard's first few years were obviously his best. We extended him, hired a successful head coach to assist him and he still continued to be unsuccessful.

Wes Miller the last 3 years has accomplished something neither Rowe or the previous 3 Men's coach accomplished - a top 100 program for 3 consecutive years.

There is a reason most Men's College Basketball coaches get a 5 year contract - because it gives them enough time to build and put their stamp on a program, and for the school it gives them time to analyse there progression. Lou's continued to out-recruit the other teams in the CAA, but the results continue to be sub par. This will already cost us next year in attendance/support. It's certainly is materially affecting support this year.

If we hired Wes, he would only likely leave on his own if he was successful at JMU. I'll take that and gladly listen to JMU fans bash him when he leaves. 02-13-banana Just get us to the level we should be at......

Steve Buchantz and Phil Chenier have a podcast called "On the Road with Buck and Phil: The Misadventures of Celebrity Travel" that is worth a listen if you're a fan of the old Buck and Phil duo on the Wizards broadcast.

Give it a subscribe. I'm not even much of a basketball fan but it's interesting to hear their behind the scenes tales.
