You can’t stop can you?!
Nope Dude can't resist with his anti Murray rants, just see the above. But objective minds who know better look at WMU goaltending situatuion this way:
1) You can't win playing at the highest level without at the very least, above average goal tending. WMU is competing in a conference facing multiple NHL caliber shooters every game and the goal tending position is critical in order for WMU to be successful. Since moving into the NCHC, the WMU goal tending position has been the biggest hole it has struggled to fill. There have been many, many games in the NCHC, where the Broncos have out played it's opponet, yet the difference in the out come of the game was thier goal tender was better than our goal tender. We have had very few games were our goal tending has stole the game.
2) You say Murray will "get into his head"? In other words, he'll have to "compete for the job"!! And in order to keep the starting job the goal tender will have to met a certain level of performance expectation, or else one of the other goal tenders will get an opportunity to meet those performance expectations. "He did it to Frank"? Or did Hafner overtake the starting position from Frank because he wasn't meeting those perforamnce expectations? And if your an upper classman, a senior goalie whose perforamnce is not meeting those expectations, your saying Murray should not play the under classman who will be returning multiple years who is equal to the task? Name one college coach in any sport who would not do the same? In fact, this happens at the prep level....
I'm sure Blacker will have his opportunity early on to prove he is the guy. And those other goalies will also get an opportunity to prove they are more worthy and deserving of the starting postition if Blacker is not meeting those performance expectations. Blacker is a very athletic goalie and is fundmantal very solid positionaly with a good glove. He had some good success in the USHL and his Freshman year, but he has also stuggled with finding some consistency during his sophmore and junior years, though I believe he is very capiable of being the guy.
Blacker is on the smaller side of today's preferred goal tenders, which does make a difference when facing night in and night out NHL snipers who can consitanty go bar down. You can be in great position, be athletic and have a great glove, but these great NHL shooters can still find those open spots. Interesting to see that Bussi is 6' 5" and naturally covers alot of net. I have not seen him play, so I have no idea how he looks in net, but he does have the size Blacker lacks. I wish them both the best. I'm pretty sure Murray will play the goal tender that gives the Broncos the best chance to win and that could very thought the season.
