Actually what I’d like to see Penny and Miller do is move/keep both Jayden and Boyce to walk-on status and find a good landing spot for Victor. Then go get all three of them. Precious, Quinones, Watford.

Problem solved everybody’s happy.

Still need a spot for Hurt

I started a thread about next years lineup.... LQ is really growing on me, and the combo of he and Precious even more... So a lineup consisting of:
Precious
WISE
DJ
LQ
AJ

I would Relish in a heartbeat and get them to working out together ASAP...

I am omitting Trendon as I feel that our system is perfect for DJ to cover that role with more athleticism;quickness;defense;running the floor;hustle;drive and TOUGHNESS combined... In some games, we've been embarrassed this year....CPH is embarrassed and like he stated, "We have enough offense"! Defensive intensity will be priority... That's why I'm not high on Hurt or Trendon really, for the dynamics of Memphis...are they gr8 players? Sure, but seeing Wise or DJ, or Precious block a shot, then get out in transition with LQ on the wing! OMG,03-cloud9 gives chills just thinking about that; TOTAL DOMINATION...

DJ Jeffries can do everything that Trendon can do, maybe better, but definitely with more athleticism .... Lance Thomas, IM and we still have Malco D 04-rock

Trendon all day everyday. Precious has huge upside, but Trendon will impact the team immediately.

Precious is uber athletic, but isn't polished. Trendon is the more polished player of the two and doesn't have to score to impact the game.

I disagree that Precious isn’t polished. Watford is a very good, very nice player. I’d love to have him. But if I’m choosing, it’s Precious every time. Dude will impact a game because he is on a different level of athleticism than probably 90% of college basketball players.

Reel in Achiuwa and Quinones and we’ll dominate.

The upside is huge for Precious and there is no debating that, but deciding which of the two would make a more immediate impact in college next year it's Trendon all day long.

Give me the guy who's intangibles are higher and that is Watford.

Watford is the better overall player.

Precious is the player with the bigger upside down the road.

Give me the the better overall player every time.

Maybe we get both then problem solved at our starting forward spots lol have Thomas and DJ as the other forwards in the rotation. Use Dandridge to back up Wiseman at center

DJ didn't leave Kentucky to sit on our bench....just like MH won't come here to sit and neither should Trendon

Curious on what influence Nate Oates will have on trying to get Watford to Alabama.

Surprising hire for them. I thought they would pick up a retread. It may depend on who he can hire as assistants.

I agree. I think the Tigers have a better chance at getting Trendon. No more doubt if he has Tigers in his final 5. He mentioned them tonight and that he would make his announcement at the Jordan-Brand game. Precious has the motor I like in a player.

But Watford said, on ESPN, Duke, Indiana, Memphis, Alabama and LSU. Don't understand ESPN listing teams for Watford like UCF and Mississippi State. Sadly, way more people saw that stupid ESPN list than what the kid actually said.

Funniest part of the McDonald AA game was that almost every single player on the floor was sporting the cornroll/fro thing that Wiseman and Watford have (not sure what the latest name for that is, but there was hardly a player without it)

RE: Trendon or Precious
For the OP premise, I’m good with either player. I would take first commitment because the old battered tiger fan syndrome worries about striking out. I do think striking out is highly highly unlikely but there it is!

Watched some of the MAAG and social media clips from practice. Watched all past mixtape highlights. Love PA’s motor and athleticism. He would be a terror playing defense the way Penny seems to prefer. Pressure and fast breaks. Good ball handler on those breaks. And a PA commitment seems like it comes with a LQ commitment. Not certainly but it does look that way. I would be ecstatic

I like Watford’s skill and he’s probably a slightly better post defender and rebounder. I noticed he’s trimmed down and he moves a lot better than my original impression.

Like I said, idk if I have a real preference for either individual player. Would be happy with either one. Just giddy we’re in this position after the recent half decade

Same here. And after watching last night's game, my order of preference is:

Quinones (who didn't play, but is the shooter we need)

Achiuwa

Watford

Hurt

Trendon or Precious
(03-27-2019 10:00 AM)salukiblue Wrote:  If we need to exploit the one year of Wiseman, Watford is the no-brainer.

If the want is to maximize next year, take Watford and Rayjon Tucker over Precious and Lester.

Lester, as a top 75 player, won't likely be an immediate impact, dominant guy.

Heck, here are some recent Memphis players ranked from 40ish-70:

Willie Kemp (41)
Witherspoon (38)
KJ Lawson (53)
Nick King (48)
Antonio Anderson (66)
Jeff Robinson (48)
Jeremy Hunt (72)

None of those guys as frosh were "go-to" guys or even guys that were relied upon as a 2nd or 3rd option.

Now, if we want to "long play" this roster, obviously you get Lester and Precious.

Yeah you’re probably right (although most of those guys weren’t known as shooters coming out of HS). That’s the one thing that intrigues me about Lester. A wide open 3 is the same in D1 vs. HS. With James in the post, others are gonna get some open looks.

If you prefer experience, Kira Lewis is a baller, but it could be risky trying to get him eligible for next season. Tucker would be a nice get.

I’ve read on different sites and blogs that the new transfer portal going into effect this year for basketball, like football, makes transfers and immediate eligibility way easier and way more likely. Lance Thomas just had bad timing.
