RE: 2020 Official Verbal Thread
Another great pickup from the state of Michigan. in this year's class, 3 out of our top 4 recruits are from Michigan! I thought we had a good chance for this guy. I had mentioned in the recruiting thread that 247 sports crystal ball gave us a 50% chance of signing him. 6'3" highly rated 3* QB recruit at a key position. One of the difference makers I alluded to in a previous verbal post. Let's keep it going! His 247 rating of 85.38 makes him our 2nd highest recruit so far. He is also the HIGHEST RATED QB in the state of Michigan.

Loved that all of the other recruits were tweeting at him earlier today.

I know I know but I’m gonna say it anyway.....

Hammock and his staff in just 5 months of recruiting are really just knocking the ball out of the freakin park.

Good article on Carman-Ainsworth

https://www.mlive.com/sports/flint/2019/...hoice.html

Excellent qualities (hard working and all) and stats! He had excellent size at 6'4" and 205 lbs.

I felt better when I saw he picked NIU over 2 P5 offers - Indiana and Kentucky. I see on 247 the crystal ball prediction is 50/50 Mich. St. and NIU. MSU has not offered him. However, his brother is a freshman at MSU.

So, my only concern is if MSU does offer him. Outside of that, he sure looks/sounds like a hard commit as they say.

NIU: The Harvard of the Midwest.

Quote:Turning down an academic powerhouse like Harvard was difficult for a guy who has a 3.8 grade-point average.

“It definitely was,” he said. “That’s always a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and you’d almost be set for life if you take care of business and meet the right people. But at the end of the day, I felt the people at NIU had the best interests for me and I could get a good education there as well as have my dream of playing college football.”

Here's another article.

http://www.statechampsnetwork.com/index....-illinois/

Quote:FLINT — If Michigan State comes calling, Dustin Fletcher might listen, but the rising senior quarterback at Flint Carman-Ainsworth announced Friday at the school that he was making a verbal commitment to Northern Illinois University.

The Class of 2020 signal-caller has started since the second game of his freshman season and turned down the likes of Harvard to commit to NIU.

Quote:Fletcher is following a trend of top players in the state leaving Michigan. Oak Park’s Justin Rogers (Kentucky) and Enzo Jennings (Penn State) are leaving Michigan along with Detroit King’s Rashwan Williams (Indiana) and Peny Boone (Maryland).

“Leaving home didn’t bother me,’’ said Fletcher, a dual-threat quarterback. “I just wanted to go where I would be comfortable. I was only being recruited as a quarterback.’’

Fletcher said he would consider MSU because of Michael but added: “I already have a home in DeKalb.

“We both had plenty of offers, but as far as making our decision. … Mike wanted to say home. I didn’t have a problem going far. I just wanted to go to a great situation. We’re trying to do something big in the 2020 class.’’

Just realized this, do you think his name is Carmen Ainsworth? 03-wink

Welcome Dustin Fletcher aka "Fletch" to NIU.

If he honors his commitment and arrives on campus, he would be the tallest QB in a long time, if not ever.

That's a surprising stat. HS ball in IL must have had a drop in quality. We are doing more in Mi & Wisc than IL.

To the Carey comment.... He recruited pros and won CHAMPIONSHIPS. That's what I want. Comparisons aren't need now, let the past go.

2020 Official Verbal Thread
Who is this Coach Carey that people are mentioning? I only know one head coach, Thomas Hammock, and he's doing an unbelievable job thus far. Can't wait to see the Xs and Os on the field!

Saw multiple tweets mentioning that NIU has 10 3-Star recruits committed for their 2020 class already. They had 9 combined from 2016-2019. Not huge on the Star ratings but that’s still impressive.

Yeah it’s out there but not sure who’s rating them. Last year we had 13 3 star commits alone according to 247 and we’ve had no less than 10 per year the last 3 years. Prior to 2017 however is a drop off.

That person was using ESPN's ratings. Never seen them because you need to be an insider. and yes, 247's would be wildly different. The 2020 class per 247 has a lower recruit avg rating than the '19,'18 class. Who knows. But what is clear is Hammock has one big time QB on campus and one with a verbal. That means more to me than a how many 3 star guys he has compared to the last coach.

Add to that our top rated 2020 commit is the RB (Jevyon Ducker from NE). That is 3 highly rated O skill players starting fresh in about 5 months. I don't care how that stacks up the the past; that is impressive no matter how you view it!
