Look at the coaches.... Retreads, has beens and never will bes.
We are talking about basketball. Arguably the 4th most popular sport in The SEC behind Football, Football Recruiting and Baseball.
I have no idea who Missouri’s football coach is. Odom? Sounds right, but I wouldn’t bet a dollar on it. I do know Cuonzo Martin is their basketball coach and he left Cal-Berkeley to be there. They still play Big XII style football; when they played in that bowl against OK State it seemed like a natural conference game.
I know Frank Martin left K State to be the basketball coach at SC. I know their football coach too. SC actually has more conference titles in basketball (SoCon-4, ACC-1, SEC-1) than football (ACC-1). I suppose they are a basketball school that wants to be a football school, whatever that means.
Kentucky, of course, is a basketball school, and Arkansas is probably a good balance of both, especially considering they were one of the three Crown Jewels in the SWC.

It is when Tilman Fertitta is willing to personally bankroll your retirement.
Sampson is 63. If he comes to Arkansas, he's there four, maybe five years at most? Why would he leave Houston for a short-term gig when he has a great setup there?
I think the decision to fire Anderson was questionable, but if you do that, you don't do it to hire someone four years older than Anderson is. Hire a young and ambitious coach and build for the long-term.

Depends more on what Sampson wants.
I'm not saying Houston is a bad job, but they still have limited resources. Arkansas might not have a Tilman Fertitta type that's such a public face with a boisterous lifestyle, but there's plenty of money flowing through NW Arkansas.

Aren’t the Waltons big Arkansas donors? Walmart HQs in the region so I’m sure they get tons of money from them.

Arkansas is a good job. It's in the SEC with SEC money. It's a football school, but basketball is a closer second than it is at most other SEC schools. They have six Final Fours and a national championship. They have a rabid fan base. If the team is reasonably good, their fans will come out in full force and will travel in large numbers to away games and neutral sites. If something has a hog on it, their people will buy it.
Kelvin has a good thing going at U of H. As long as Tilman Fertitta is happy, everything is fine. He has a brand new arena in the fourth largest city in the US. He is old enough to not have to chase a P5 gig if he doesn't want to. He's been there and done that, at both a football school (OU) and a basketball school (Indiana). At this stage in his life, he may prefer Houston. Of course, he won't mind playing Arkansas to get a raise from Houston.
U of H gave Kelvin a chance to return to college basketball after his NCAA issues and subsequent turn in the NBA. That has to mean something to him. At the same time, the former Houston AD is now at Arkansas, thanks to a huge recommendation from Kelvin Sampson.

I'm hearing Chris Beard and the Texas Tech staff could be headed to Fayetteville.

Pretty amazing how these rumors bubble up about coaches with teams still coaching BEFORE they're knocked out of the tournament (Williams to A&M, Sampson and now Beard to Arkansas). God forbid we let those kids play without the disruption...

Looks like Sampson is staying put at UH. Big win for Houston and the AAC. Curious who Arky ends up landing.
