Have you noticed the pattern:

Coached at Oklahoma
Coached at Indiana
Coaches Houston
Considered at UNLV
Considered at Alabama
Considered at Arkansas

Maybe red is his favorite color.

Good point. Dude has made a fortune too.

Red? Or Green?

I'm gonna take leap and say he's found a comfort zone.... This decision will be against the norm and somewhat shocking... but similar to Norvell... He has one of the best jobs rn... Being in a POWER position of acceptance as opposed to being in a position of what are you going to do for us... Is way more lucrative to the soul than FIAT 03-shhhh

Still a good coaching gig for the right person. Fayetteville and the surrounding area is extremely pretty and the fans will support a winner there.

Compared to what?

I can see it being better than Vandy/Bama/Missisippi/Mississippi State/Georgia....but behind LSU (better recent records, better recruiting area), Auburn (we may hate Pearl, but he's got them in the Sweet 16, something that Arkansas has not seen this century), Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, Mizzou.

In other words, it's a mid-tier SEC program that has a crappy recruiting area and very little recent tradition.

I never said it's an amazing job, just a good one for the right guy.

I agree. They have plenty of money, good facilities. They can get recruits to Fayetteville with the right coaching staff. Like so many schools, it's dependent on the head coach.

The AD at Arkansas was the AD at Houston when they hired Sampson.

Bobby Petrino didn't have any problem getting Jessica Dorrell on staff.

Nolan was 90% crazy, but he was right about the difficulty in winning at Arkansas.

23 years since a Sweet 16. And we used to worry about them. They are about as irrelevant as they come currently. I really thought Anderson was at least a partial answer to their woes. I was wrong.

When Scott Edgar left the Arkansas staff as an assistant to take the HC job at Murray State in 1991 that's when Arkansas's recruiting of Memphis players started to fall off.

Edgar was Nolan's bagman that had all of the deep relationships in Memphis.

It never was Mike Anderson that had the inroads in Memphis.

You could tell by how few players ever ended up at Arkansas after Edgar left.

Bruce Pearl hired him for one season hoping for a big recruiting haul in Memphis that never paid off. (pun intended)

Not good at all - especially for future recruits. What does Khalil tell current and/or future recruits? 'Don't come here, the fans are delusional'?

I knew Stan Heath was a reach, but Heath was a 'convenience' hire, so to speak. Pelphrey was a bust, but I thought Anderson was their best chance and he had a legit record.

I think Chris Beard has to be on the radar since he was a stud at UALR and he is tearing it up at Texas Tech.

Beard is a Texas alum, longtime Tech assistant, and has family in the Lubbock area. He ain't leaving the Top 10 program he as built and family to go to an irrelevant program. He just went to one and has it going.

Arkansas is easier to recruit for.
Near 2 basketball hotbeds, and Lubbock is in the middle of nowhere.
Football stayed relevant because of offensive reputation.
If offered enough, I think Beard seriously considers...basketball legacy...etc.
They're a sleeping giant waiting for the right coach to light the spark.

They can be good just going after kids from Memphis that Penny and staff don't recruit.

Sampson's response would seem less than reassuring to Cougar fans:

Houston better roll out some big cash for Sampson. It will be a blow to them if he leaves.

Having the right fit/coach is vital. We know first hand.

Sampson is only making $1.4M per year at Houston. And the AD who negotiated the raise and extension for Sampson in 2016 is now the AD at Arkansas.

Sampson had a 5 year show cause after he got caught cheating at Indiana in 2008. Houston gave him a chance to rebuild his reputation, hopefully Sampson values that.
