That's because city kids from the North don't have many places to play baseball. Lacrosse is pretty much an East Coast rich white kid sport. Jim Brown did crash it for Syracuse back in the day. But outside of rowing and golf it draws contributions so Buffy and Jody can have something to play.
Baseball is a small country town sport that is loved in the cities in the South as well where park space is still dedicated to it. For most schools in the SEC it is a revenue sport better compared to hockey in the Big 10.

Not only did Texas Tech whip Michigan in basketball, we swept them in baseball last weekend.
Maybe the Big 10 has a fetish against schools who beat them.

Well, Baseball absolutely has its roots in the northern big cities. However you want to say it’s a small town sport now etc etc, but when I think of baseball I think of New York City and immigrants. The big city teams like the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Giants, the Red Sox. I’m probably influenced by the fantastic Ken Burns Baseball doc.

Congratulations on Tech's big win Over Michigan and again over Gonzaga!
I'm an Ohio State guy and not a conference cheerleader. I guess though when you talk to an entire conference that puts the Buckeyes in the conversation. Try and stay classy and act like you've been there before, even though you haven't... ever!
Anyways, best of luck the rest of the way!

My point was purely contemporary and when baseball gained club level status in New York in the later quarter of the 19th century there were still plenty of open spaces in which to play and nobody would have played it in the horse manure filled streets of the era.
The problem with metropolitan areas today is that land comes at a premium. Parks are nice and schools have some space. But today, unlike in the 1870's, leather comes at a premium and baseball has become not only expensive in terms of land but also for equipment. Basketball takes less space and precious little equipment outside of shoes and a ball.
It was a contemporary social statement, not a history of a game that had its roots in English rounders.
That said, it could have a renaissance if CTE's continue to plague football, soccer and some other games. And being old fashioned I love not having a clock.

Beating one of your blue bloods gave Tech validation. I'll act like you would winning a spot in the Final 4.
Maybe our academics can catch up to Big 10 standards so Texas doesn't have a "Tech" problem

You see, unlike most, I have no problem with other teams beating certain teams in the conference Ohio State plays in. That's why when you say "your" when referring to Michigan as if the are one of my own? No, I absolutely despise them and was rooting hard for them to lose.
I never had a dog in this fight until you continued to talk to an entire conference multiple times. Just wanted to chime in and speak up a bit.
Again, congratulations! Texas Tech is a lot of fun to watch. Auburn, Texas Tech, Michigan State and UCF have made this tournament very enjoyable for me personally. Hated seeing UCF lose because they were so much fun, but still have the other 3 to keep my interest going.

Go Texas Tech! I would be ok with them winning it all. Why not?
I never liked Gordon Gee much. The whole "Tech problem" started with him. He was able to get Mr. Wexner to donate a fat $100 million here in Columbus. Other than that his mouth was always in the way of any good he did. I'm not going to lie, I am a big academic guy but I'm not a snob. Just because a school is not AAU inclusive doesn't mean they have bad academics. All scools have their strengths!

RE: Big 12 Backfill
(03-27-2019 03:40 AM)CardinalJim Wrote: If I remember correctly, previous Texas leadership has said if UT looks to leave The Big 12, it will look east. If The Big 12 has to backfill it will be as a result of the conference losing programs to The Big 10 and/or SEC.
What has insulated The PAC 12 from conference upheaval the last few years, being alone on the west coast, has also proven to be its biggest detriment. The PAC for all practical purposes is on an island. No P5 is going to voluntarily put themselves on that island.
Agree with this, feel like the PAC won’t add anyone or lose anyone when realignment comes around this time, their geography is absolutely a blessing and a curse. And the ACC is off the table obviously as well. 4 total, 2 each from the Big 12 to the SEC and BIG makes the most sense. Split UT/OU/KU between em and they’re now clearly in a tier of their own. $$$$$
The 6 Big 12 remnants would be fine without UT/OU, add BYU/UH to the 5 western schools in a West division and use West Virginia as the starting point to put together an Eastern division with the best of the AAC, most of which are P5 ready or used to be BCS anyway. That’s still a Power conference on the level of the PAC in football and wouldn’t be dominated by any 1 team like the Big 12 is now. Maybe the current P5 schools like TTech and West Virginia would be pissed but they’ll be suddenly able to actually compete for conference championships and NY6 bowls on a yearly basis in a power conference which if we’re being honest isn’t a possibility now. Also the basketball would be top tier.
