Last Season's Biggest Head Scratcher May Be Returning
The college basketball world was shocked and bewildered by UTA letting Scott Cross go last year. Well don't look now, but Cross is rumored by Hoop Dirt to be likely to reappear in the SBC at Troy.

If this comes to be, how up do you think Coach Cross will be when Troy takes on UTA next year!

I was extremely critical of the Cross firing. For the first half of the year, it appeared clear their AD was an idiot for firing him. Then UTA ended up as the 2 seed and went to the Championship game. For the most part, the AD had the last laugh. I do think Cross would be a great hire for Troy.

Well, the new UTA coach did end up doing well. Primarily with Cross' players would be my guess. But I don't see how that is "the last laugh" since it was not as good as Cross had done the previous year with a regular season championship!

From what I recall, Cross' best players graduated last year and this season was supposed to be a complete rebuild. From what I can tell their new coach did a great job this season.

I am hearing Cross to Troy is a done deal. Troy vs. UTA should be really interesting next year!

Glad he landed on his feet. I think he is a good coach. Was he available when we were looking for a coach last season? I would think he was.

Ron Hunter wins big at Georgia State and parlays that into million dollar contract at Tulane which doesn't look like much of a step up except in salary. Scott Cross wins big at UTA, gets fired, and goes to TCU as an assistant and then back to the Sun Belt as head coach at Troy. If there wasn't a back story to his firing surely he could have landed a better job.

The Troy job is very comparable to UTA. I wouldn't expect a fired Sun Belt coach to move up a level. An AD at an AAC school would have a hard time explaining that type of hiring to boosters.

Maybe Cross was not making sure his players were going to class and they were flunking.

Sure he did, but he didn't Dance, and that was why Cross got fired, not because he didn't do well. Evidently close-but-no-cigar doesn't buy you anything with this AD.
