Will UCF's starting QB return this year? His backup was plenty good but Milton's quick release made him elite--a nightmare for most any defense.

Let's hope UC has already started planning on how to fill the house that night. A national TV audience (including P5 conference fans) won't care that there are important high school football games in our city that evening. They'll just note the empty seats in Nippert and opine that it's little different from a MAC game.

A return to college football in 2019 remains unlikely. The goal for Milton’s return is 2020

It’s easy to forget how serious that injury was. Without Milton, and playing in Cincinnati it gives us a real shot at winning the conference though I I’m honest I’d rather win with him in the lineup.

I hope they do announce a dedicated Bowl for the AAC Champ. A New Year 6 bid would be great of course, but we should also have a dedicated Bowl for the AAC champ.

Can’t wait to see how we do this year and moving forward. Should be a great year as Fickell continues to build the foundation of the program.

Agreed. While the AAC appears worthy of the New Year's bowl every season among the G5 there is too much risk, as the conference gets more competitive, of being edged out by an undefeated MWC--or even MAC team. So a dedicated bowl for the conference champ (or runner up when the NY6 bowl is awarded to our champ) is much needed. If UC lost once in conference, and in the conference championship and dropped a game @ Ohio State this season, that three loss UC team could be more deserving of a high profile bowl against a P5 school than any other G5 conference champ. After a season that great, it would be a downer to go play a C-USA team.

Exactly! To much risk to be shut out of a New Years Six Bowl for this conference, even if we do win the conference. Would also give us a second big bowl if the AAC champ gets the New Years Six invite from G5 schools.

They are supposed to announce one apparently so it will be interesting to get details on it and hopefully it’s sooner rather than later. I know we all want to get into a P5 conference, but until then I do like what they have done with trying to grow the AAC. They have done the best they can with what they have (taking Aresco’s word about a bowl and MBB challenge with another conference).

Insane thinking that injury happened in the end of November and he can't even bear his own weight on it. I mean, the dude almost lost his leg...if I were him I'd be pushing for a coaching position on staff ASAP, I just don't see a way for him to be even half the player he was with that kind of physical (and psychological) damage.

Yeah I always assumed IF he made it back he would be a shell of his former self (see Munchie Legaux in the 2014 who did not have his mobility- although Legaux did actually make better decisions).

Milton stands a better chance to be good again as his game is more about accuracy and quick release not mobility. Munchie had terrible passing mechanics and his game was mobility which he lost.

Milton's fairly mobile...or he was. Reminded me a lot of Collaros in BK's system.

Milton definitely used his mobility to his benefit and if he lost that ability it would effect the player he is. Not to say he couldn’t overcome it, but it was definitely something he utilized.

I had to post this after seeing it again. The "purest, cleanest hit" from last season...

Wiggins was arguably the most exciting player on the team last year, sealing a couple of victories with remarkable plays. Here's hoping he stays healthy this season and we see lots more heroics from him.

I know in the grand scheme of things, you want talent and depth along the DEE line because if you can't pressure the QB it doesn't matter as much what you have on the back end. That said, this dude has a chance to play on Sundays IMO and he's only a Junior this year. He has all the physical tools but if he can continue to develop the football IQ part - look out! I think probably the best part about him is he seems like such a solid, humble kid that is COACHABLE.

RE: Football Season
I think that there are 4 keys to next season being successful (beyond avoiding key injuries).

Kicking game. Our punter was solid and great. Our return game was, at best, mediocre. Kicking was a mess. Too many missed FG's. Too many FG tries avoided because of lack of confidence.

WR - We need an alpha dog "I am going to get open, get to the ball, and hold onto it" guy. As good as out TE receiving game was last year, we need more from WRs. We also need a stretch the field guy for a few big hits and to open things up underneath.

OL - left side, replacing those starters. Boyd really solidified things last season. .

DT - Two very big sets of shoes to fill. (DE should be fine.)

If we can do these, the Bearcats can have a fine season.

I think QB is a position we need to get better at as well. Ridder made a lot of plays with his legs but we need to improve our downfield passing to keep defenses honest. I'm interested to see if Ben Bryant is given a real shot at it.

While I agree we need to get better there, Ridder was a redshirt freshman and showed a ton of promise. He struggled at times against above average defenses, but was mostly good with the football and put up good numbers against lower defenses. I'm really interested to see what kind of leap he can make this year. If he can make quicker decisions, his accuracy was pretty good and his mobility/running ability give us a nice dynamic.

Bryant will be given a shot, but make no mistake- this is Ridder's team. A quarterback is more than just a body, he is the leader of the team. Des is a leader on and off the field.

I have no concerns about the OL. The line might actually be better this year than last to be honest due to more athleticism and depth.

I think scientifically our wide receivers last year could best be described as "dog doo doo". Outside of Lewis, they never got open and when they were couldn't catch. It's weird that for a position that was such a strength of ours for so many years, they have definitely been a subpar group for the past few years.

I thought our receivers were mostly fine last year. Two years ago I thought they were awful but last season I thought they made some big plays, mostly got separation and even made some great contested catches for Ridder. It wasn't the huge strength for UC we saw in say 2009, but I didn't see it as a noticeable weakness it was two years ago and in fact I think they contributed to Ridder's comfort and success as a freshman. My big concern this year is can someone step up and be the guy Lewis was.

I would look for a lot of two TE sets to get all the talent we have in that group out on the field
