McClelland looks like he has a chance to be a really good receiver out of the backfield. He just looks so natural catching the ball and he's also a nightmare in space for opposing defenses.

Really hoping we use him as a jet sweep back / wide receiver this year on a decent percent of snaps. Our power runners combined with the threat of McClelland outside could give teams fits.

Felt like we got a little too locked in on the inside runs last year. Even with McClelland in the game we tended to run him straight up the gut. I'd definitely like to see more diversity in order to keep the defense honest. That pass to McClelland out of the backfield against VT was a thing of beauty. We should run that every game.

To run outside with any consistency, you need some speed in your line. Not all, but some of those OL guys would need to pull, set an edge, and block in space. Frankly, I am not sure we had that last year.

I think that our running style reflected the talent on the OL. Good utilization, based on that analysis.

Actually perimeter blocking is the key to running jet sweeps. This is primarily accomplished by the wide receivers and tight ends. In fact, to make jet sweeps more effective the OL is to block as normal to confuse the defense into what is coming. The RB is simply going to make that cut around the corner before any of the hogs can get there.

How does that exempt him from a colling off period? Was that one of the unilateral changes that were made to the transfer policy last summer?

Yeah, it would seem like a good reason to not Red Shirt someone, if it makes them a free agent.

My thoughts exactly...plus, I haven't seen it reported that he has officially transferred here.

Maybe because the NCAA seems to get waivers to most transfers these days people are just assuming he'd be immediately eligible. Ohio State got Justin Fields to transfer from GA because he was going to be the backup at GA. As a result, Tate Martell figured he'd be riding the pine at OSU with Fields coming in so he transferred to Miami. Both Fields and Martell ultimately got 'hardship' waivers for basically no reason other than the fact they were going to be backups on their previous team.

Fields had well documented instances of hostile environment based on significant race-related aggression...I'm not sure why Martell was allowed to transfer, but Fields' seemed legitimate.

Hell, we're about to get approval for Hudson based partially on Michigan demoting him due to injury. The NCAA is clearly making an effort to not be so restrictive, but I doubt they'll ever get to the full free-agency horror show that some traditionalists seem to worry about.

I'll be curious to see this offseason if the NCAA starts granting the same number of waivers in hoops as they've done in football this year.

RE: Football Season
I’m pretty excited for our football team this year. Fickell has done an excellent job building the foundation and we seem pretty set for long term success. Last year’s success will only help recruiting over the next year or 2 and continue building the talent level. Maybe we can end up crashing a New Year 6 Bowl game with some luck.

We should have a good enough schedule that if we won them all we would have a legit shot at making the playoff. I think we will have a better team than last year, but with a few more losses due to the schedule being much more difficult.

Yea, next year I expect a better team but maybe a slight step back in terms of record. I’m hoping in the next 2-3 years we can crack a New Year 6 Bowl game though. Obviously, that’s pretty high expectations but if Fickell stays and keeps building on the foundation he has already laid out then it’s definitely possible.
