James Gordon Transferring!
I just saw from Jeff Goodman at Stadium Insider that James Gordon has put his name on the Transfer List. Goodman is a College Basketball Reporter that has worked for CBS and other Media outlets and has been a very reliable source for College Basketball News over the years. He has compiled a Transfer List for over 10 years. He currently has over 350 players on his Transfer list, both Undergrad and Graduate Transfers. You can see his entire list at https://watchstadium.com/news/comprehens...college...

Figured it was coming. That would bring us to even on schollies. He was not that talented but seemed like a hard worker. I’ll remember the two games last year when he came in and gave some great energy. The crowd went wild. Wish he had more opportunity but energy and hard work only carry you so far. Good luck, James!

what did anyone suspect, coach did not get him into games for meaningful minutes. Same as Hill who I am surprised he has not declare yet.

Being facetious - (little tongue-in-cheek) humor...

No one is really surprised. This was expected. There are 13 scholarship players. Most teams only play 8-9 guys. That means every team will have 4-5 guys who rarely play. This isn't grade school where everyone is required to play.

I saw a lot more talent in Gordon than others on this board but either he never took advantage of the little playing time he was given or he remained in K’s dog house but his time here in Toledo was a waste

Frankly, I cannot believe he waited this long. Same for Alfredson and Hill. It drives me nuts when we recruit and sign these athletes, whether it's football or basketball and we don't play them. It's not like we signed a bunch of scrubs. These are D1 Athletes. How else do the coaches expect them to get better unless they let them play? Can't say I blame any one of them if they transfer. I realize there are a ton of D1 Athletes who don't pan out. Maybe we can find a diamond in the rough again like Darrington, Fletcher or Taylor? That would be nice.

Good luck to James.

RE: James Gordon Transferring!
Unless someone knows Gordon personally, we have no idea whether he chose to leave or not. On the one hand, it would make sense that he would choose to leave, given that K wouldn't play him. On the other hand, if no one chose to leave, then K would have to cut someone, since he had to open up a spot for next year's commits. Either way, K knew from the beginning of the season that he was going to have to get rid of someone, and he probably decided months ago that it would be Gordon, one way or the other.

The Commish is moving on. Hopefully he'll land somewhere he can get more playing time. Originally from Kentucky he played his seniot year at powehouse Simeon HS in Chicago on a team loaded with high level Div 1 talent and saw limited minutes as a senior. Unless you're Tino Valencia, there aren't a lot of 6'4 power forwards starters in Div 1. Good luck Mr Gordon.

RE: James Gordon Transferring!
I wouldn't call Gordon's time a waste. He got 3 years of free education. He was a well liked player on good teams. He improved his craft and developed his game. Not sure about his academics, but if he was grinding hard during summer school he might be able to grad early and transfer D1 and play 2 years. If not, I imagine he'll drop down a level where he could be an impact player at D2 or D3.

Otherwise, look at the roster. Knapke, Edu. There's your primary bigs. Willie Jackson is your small forward. Smith, Etherington, Acunzo, Hill, Maranka all battling for minutes somewhere. I mean, personally, I lean more toward the give your bench guys a little PT here and there to see if anyone is a gamer in the rough, but realistically it's hard to see a path to more playing time for Gordon.

The key is that none of our top 5 returnees leave. The other question is if another end of bench guy or two goes is there an impact transfer coach k can bring in...

RE: James Gordon Transferring!
Coach let Gordon play in the MAC tourney for meaningful minutes...he came in and threw up a complete brick. Probably one of the worst shots of the season I've seen (it hit the side of the backboard). 3 years of free college education can never be replaced. I hope he transfers to a school where he sees a lot of PT. Wish him all the best. Once a Rocket...

RE: James Gordon Transferring!
Having watch Toledo area high school basket player Parker Ernsthausen, a limited talented D1 player here at Wright State, who got a lot of playing time in his time at this school. Kinda makes you wonder how much playing time he would have gotten at UT if he had went there. Ernsthausen was given the chance to excel on the court by Coach Nagy and he did this with limited skills. A 6-10 center who play along as either a backup to starter Louden Love at 6-9 or on the court at the same time. Last 2 seasons, Wright State victories against UT, Parker as a starter was 0-1 from the field, grabbed 9 rebounds, with 3 assists to his credit , and scored a total of 3 points in 26 mins of play earlier this past season. In 2017-2018 season, at UT, in 22 minutes of action, he was 1-2 from the field, 1-2 FTs, 2 rebounds, and had 1 assist as a starter with the Raiders. He was a player who made himself a very talented defensive player. Point made, if Gordon or Hill could have gotten minutes on the defensive end, let's say in spots, and be given the chance by being able to grind and push their weight around against the opponent. Of course, we will now never know during this past season. How much time did they get against X, zilch!

At 6-5, Hill and Gordon are power forwards which is a tough situation. It can be done (like Valencia), but you'd better be a real athlete or have a junkyard dog mentality.

Wright State was lucky to get UT early in the schedule.
