Open jobs in SEC basketball
Alabama is now open with Avery Johnson agreeing to a buyout.

Vandy is open as Bryce Drew gets canned.

Texas A&M is open as Billy Kennedy finally wears out his welcome.

That's it so far although I have to wonder if Will Wade is going to survive at LSU.

RE: Open jobs in SEC basketball
I've spent an inordinate amount of time reading about these things the last few days so bear with me as I regurgitate...

Alabama: There were several people connected to the program that hinted at Steve Prohm even before Avery Johnson had been let go. No official word from Greg Byrne and he's promised to not conduct the search publicly unlike what we saw 4 years ago with Bill Battle courting Gregg Marshall out in the open.

With that said, there were rumors Thad Matta was on campus today.

Also, there's the thought that the AD will move up the renovation schedule for Coleman Coliseum if the right candidate wants it.

Vanderbilt: I have no raw information here, but I have seen a couple of media figures comment that John Thompson III was the favored candidate.

Texas A&M: Again, no raw information, but all eyes seem to point to Buzz Williams although obviously his team is still playing in the NCAA so it could be at least a week before this shakes out.

He went to grad school at A&M-Kingsville and also coached there for a while. He was once an assistant at A&M and is from TX.

RE: Open jobs in SEC basketball
The TN women's job is probably going to be open, if that fits the intended focuses of the thread. Jeff Walz is the rumored replacement.

I don't know if Fulmer is willing to pull the trigger, but if there are already rumors of a replacement, then maybe something is going on behind the scenes?

Buzz to Texas A&M definitely continues the SEC's pattern of improving its coaching ranks, though if Virginia Tech beats Duke in a few days I wonder if 1) his price goes up or 2) he winds up staying at Virginia Tech.

Not sure I think JTIII or Matta are good choices but they aren't awful either.

I love Hoiberg to Arkansas. I think it would be a fantastic fit in all regards.

Rumors/stories were circulating that Frank Martin of USC was interested in the UNLV job. Martin has denied it.

I don't think he leaves this year. Next year if he raises his profile with another Tournament appearance he may try and leave then.

His salary is the primary issue, he makes over 3 million now and few schools would be willing to match or beat that.

Alabama hired Nate Oates of Buffalo.

Just saw the news.

I haven't had a chance to take a close look at him, but I like what I've seen.

It's not trendy but it is a very solid hire.

Arkansas may struggle to get hoiberg from Nebraska. But if they did, Yuge.

I think Nebraska would be a very tough place to compete for BIG championships. They will always be fighting Kansas, and I would think most elite players who just want to be in the BIG will end up at the Great Lakes touching states' schools.

Arkansas really is in a nice recruiting location. They are a natural recruiting destination for kids from Texas and Memphis, and Arkansas itself produces much better homegrown recruits than Nebraska. I love when UK plays Arkansas because their fans love their team, have a great time, and are knowledgeable. Arkansas has some serious dough for athletics, as well. They just need the right driver.

It’s official

Texas A&M hires Buzz Williams

Actually a landmark hire for A&M. First time ever they’ve gone out and gotten a proven winner HC from the Power Confetence ranks instead of bargain bin shopping for former assistants and one bid league coaches which had very mixed results.

I’ve always said we have tremendous potential in BB given our resources and proximity to Houston. Hopefully this is us finally deciding to get serious about it

Congrats to both Texas A&M and to Buzz Williams. A&M gets a great coach and Buzz gets to go home. As for VT, we'll appreciate what he did for the program... and look to hire a solid replacement!

Stackhouse to Vandy. Don't know much, but seems like an Avery Johnson type hire?
