Yes... Ive put way to much thought into this.

It'd be so much easier to just get the top half of British Columbia. I don't think the people living there are of the same political bend as somebody in Surrey.

Yea, but that requires splitting an existing province apart. I don't know if there's ANY legal framework for that. I'm guessing there isn't because the provinces are sovereign, which is what gives them the right to leave.

I don't think that applies for the regional districts within a Province, because while they do have some autonomy, they are regulated by the Provincial government.

We know for sure that Provinces can walk. That's been decided by Canada's Supreme Court. Secession of a Regional District from a Province has not.
I'm not aware of any time in canadian history where a province has split. It's always been splitting off of a Territory into another Territory or Province. Which was how AL, SK, became provinces. MA was created during the annexation of Ruperts Land from the UK. And then shortly there after, BC left the UK to join Canada.

Which actually... now that im saying this reminds me of a few details that throw a wrench in my highway idea.

Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut are not provinces. They are Federal Territories with no sovereignty of their own. They only have powers delegated to them by the federal government. They would have to be declared a Province before they could leave. AL, SK, and MA were once part of NWT, before they became provinces of their own

So they (Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut) would not be able to leave like AL, SK, MA.
So a direct route to AK, would require BC.

And who are you that is so wise in the ways of Canada? (Reference humor, least you think I'm just being an azz).

Seriously, I know some stuff about Canada, you are much more informed.

It's a shame nobody smart enough is whispering into Trump's ear how much of a slam dunk Alberta is as a 51st state. And it pretty much guarantees at least 3 more highly lucrative, national security relevant, national resource rich, and ready-made to be connected to the US Highway and Interstate system.

I'd gladly take Alberta and drop California so we don't have to alter the flag.

I dated a French Canadian girl before in my life... so I figured it was wise to learn about how the silly Cannucks did things and how their nation came to be...
That whole, "If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles." thing.

Haha, just kidding... or am I? 03-lmfao

I'd be all for it. And all those born in Alberta (and any subsequent Canadian provinces that may follow) would retroactively be made American citizens. (Much to the chagrin of a 24-year-old woman from Calgary I went to school with a few years back. She transferred to St. Thomas.)

Peter Zeihan called it. Alberta becoming the 51st would solve all their problems. Canada is going to bleed them dry.
