RE: John McCain defiled his reputation
That's a very fair point, but I think he defiled it even before then, whether through his Keating 5 activity or his Obamacare repeal vote, which was just out of spite with no regard for the country.

This is the prefect example of why it's perfectly acceptable to respect the man's military service but not necessarily respect the man.
One can be a war hero and still be a slimy prick.

RE: John McCain defiled his reputation
I'm still not sure he's a war hero. I'm not sure you become a hero by getting shot down. As Patton said, "No dumb bastard ever won a war by going out and dying for his country. He won it by making some other dumb bastard die for his country." And I have been told that he got shot down by not doing what he was told to do.
I got to meet him very briefly, soon after he was released. He looked like hell, he had obviously been through an awful time. So he deserves some form of honor. I'm just not sure that war hero is the term that I would use.

Benedict Arnold was one of the greatest American heroes before he screwed it up at the end. Like John McCain.

And for the same reason. He wanted to be at the top and his feelings got hurt.

I don't mind independent thinking...
but McCain really lost me forever at the Obamacare repeal vote.... U can't be a republican and cast your vote like that.
his funeral was pathetic.

Meh, he's dead, eff him. My father-in-law was a POW in Europe in WWII. He didn't let it define him nor did he seek to capitalize on his experiences. He came home, went to work and lived his life.

I tell you what. This is where it's at. He knew he didn't have long to live, even back during the '16 election.
The man did a lot for his country, just like General Arnold as you pointed out. Sadly, he chose the side of vindictive "under-cutter" at the end, and pompously believing that truth would never come to light. Well it has, and the people I feel sorry for are his descendants. They're the ones that are going to have to fight tooth and nail to defend his legacy, because without his legacy they don't really have a "legit" voice. They're forced into that corner. What a crappy corner to be in right now.

Astonishing that he’s now a “hero” of the leftists after having trashed him just a decade ago.
I think he served reasonably well for a long time, but became a petty, vindictive, angry person with a sarcastic smile on his face towards the end there.
Interestingly, Mittens seems to be following down that similar path for whatever reason. Hope not

Agree, and I think it's too late to "hope not" on his behalf. Once he penned that letter, he was all in. Had he played his hand smarter and kept his mouth shut until after the Mueller Report was released, he'd probably be on the other side of the fence. Nevertheless, he's basically royalty and untouchable in Utah anyways so he's not really threatened to lose his seat by bucking Trump so overtly like others would be. He's definitely ruined any chance at putting in for the presidency again though on the GOP ticket. Perhaps though, he's looking at switching to independent or the dems as a "centrist". The latter is growing far less likely of an option as well though, because dems are no longer interested in centrists, thanks to the new breed of liberals and their friends, the socialists .

RE: John McCain defiled his own reputation
Lindsey Ghrame told McCain to take it to the FBI. If you get any information from something from people from other countries? You take it to the FBI. What people did in Trump's campaign did was their screw up on not taken any info they got to the FBI. That was Manafort, DTJR, JK, GP, and others. They were eager to get dirt on Hillary even if it was made up.

The POW's had a code among themselves. They refused to speak ill of each other. When a POW wouldn't talk about another it was a mute statement about the man.
My uncle spent 5 years with McCain at Hanoi, and that was 2 years after he spent time in Tiger cages in jungle camps. He was a POW for 7 years.
He never spoke of McCain and when asked questions about him would simply say no comment. He talked openly of Denton and others.
McCain's status was a media construction for the purpose of image making for politics.

McCain was not a leftist. He was in bed with the big banks and that is why he hurried back to Washington with Obama at the behest of W to help show consensus for too big to fail. Those who back the Federal Reserve and the international monetary policy are still the strongest lobby in Washington and are the deep critters of the swamp.
