If I were president of JMU my first mandate would be that only people wearing purple may participate in timeout contests at athletic events. Such a simple rule that we could adopt and promote too. Hey want to play in this shooting contest? Big shoes to fill? Pizza scream? Burrito race, xyz game? Cool. Wear purple.
But what if it's a black out, gray out, or white out game? Not even gold will do??? Frankly, I agree with you.

Hopefully you guys can be just like the Buffalo/Arizona State men's game where the previous program took down the one their highly successful coach left for.

The administration needs to do something for the students. No classes Friday if you are in attendance for the whole game or give away one cash prize for the amount of every student $1 per student who is in attendance. Something to pack the convo.

(and congrats to the Hokies MBB team for making the Sweet 16 where they will face Duke, who I think they can beat...especially with Justin Robinson back)
Fanbase? What fanbase?? Do you know how many people were in Blacksburg on Sunday afternoon for the Tech-VCU game? 681, that's how many! And that probably included a few who bused down from Richmond. VT doesn't exactly have a big raucous fanbase yet. They're so used to losing down there that they don't draw crowds yet.
I was thinking the same thing. This game will not be on the radar of 98% of their fans.

You got me good. I say wear purple but I'll settle for something/anything with James Madison on it. White/gray/black/colors acceptable. Not acceptable: Hallmark, Ravens, Barney, Benq, Fedex, LSU, Washington Huskies, etc purple.

Yep. That's why I added the words "who might consider". Not suggesting there will be a thousand fans or anything. I do know there are a lot of VT bumper stickers on vehicles in the Valley, though that of course doesn't mean they will care for WBB or make the short drive over to the Convo. I hope they do. Like I said, the more the merrier.
FWIW, maybe part of the 2% are talking a little about the upcoming game... https://virginiatech.sportswar.com/messa...asketball/

RE: Virginia Tech at JMU Thursday in WNIT:
Rewind 7 years ago with some WNIT home "attendance" numbers at the Convo...
Round 1 (64) vs Davidson: 1,028
Round 2 (32) vs Wake Forest: 1,111
then...
Round 3 (16) vs South Florida (we know them): 2,354
then...
Quarterfinals vs Virginia: 3,301
then...
Semifinals vs Syracuse: 4,008
Hopefully, we can get more than the 3,301 we got for the UVA game 7 yrs ago.

RE: Virginia Tech at JMU Thursday in WNIT:
I also posted this on the South Florida thread:
Early this morning I went on the USF site to see what was on there about yesterday's game. Of course now I can't find it, but there was a twitter from one of their folks who raved about our fans last night, saying that is what they need from their fans and how our fans uplifted the team, it was very complimentary. While we only had 986 fans last night, they were all true rabid fans, there not because a tired season ticket holder gave away some freebie tickets. No these fans bought their tickets to root for the team. Deez was there leaping to his feet cheering, Brian aka Parent of a MRD was there "rootin" and he never sits. So during the 18-1 run in the second quarter it was loud! not 986 loud but it seemed like 2k loud! Bring on Thursday!
I did find this on the USF site:
A lot of young player gained valuable experience this year.
We are going to be dangerous next season when everyone is healthy and our entire bench has had meaningful playing time.
Also (big can of worms) if the AAC expands, I wouldn’t be opposed to JMU moving up to FBS and joining. They have an excellent all around department and a ton of hometown fans in Virginia.

Do NOT want to be in the AAC unless or until UConn gets OUT! And neither should you.

Ok, I'll bite on the bait ... why?
Because they are too good at Basketball or too bad at Football?
This is like saying we shouldn't want to be in the ACC because of UNC, Virginia and Duke.
This level of competition helps the entire conference. UCF received an at large women's NCAA bid, Cincinnati, USF, Houston all went to the WNIT. Thats 5 postseason bids total including UConn.
On the men's side 4 AAC teams NOT named UConn went to the NCAA tourney, and 2 more NOT named UConn went to the NIT. 6 tourney bids.
Why again would we not want to be in such a conference?

If I am reading my WNIT bracket correctly, the JMU/VT winner will face the winner of the Georgetown at Providence game tonight. I would not mind facing Georgetown for the 2nd time this season.

We should not get into the AAC due to Women's basketball?
