Not even close. At least not yet. Right now, according to verbal commits, there have been 498 players declare for transfer.
Don't get me wrong. 500 is A LOT. I highly doubt it gets to 1000. Although last year there were 878 and in 2017 there were 895. So, getting to a grand isn't totally too far fetched, but it'd be over 100 more than there has ever been.
Still...a ton of players switch teams.
It's hurting the sport, and it needs to be fixed. I don't know how, but with 351 teams in D1, it's averaged 2+ a team getting closer to 3. That's a lot of players that have to sit for a year (less grad transfers).
That's a tough stance to stick to when you're talking about athletes in revenue generating sports who get none of that revenue. Who's to say they shouldn't be allowed to make a choice to better their situation?

Remember, athletic scholarships are 1 year deals not 4 year deals. Your scholarship can be pulled after 1 year.

Article in the NY Times today says 40% of all incoming BB freshman will transfer by the end of their sophomore year. The grad transfer rules may be changed.
