It’s a revolving door of talent. I wonder what the pitch is to get these guys committing than uncommitting a year later. Richie got playing time. He was probably going to start next season. Ridiculous. Lol

Not sure how you can build a program when 3-5 guys leave each year.

Jaylen Key leaving....

Athletics earns money from big games, ticket sales, sponsorships, donations, etc. Let’s say they have the money for the buyout. Are they instead supposed to turn over that money to the university to be used for academic purposes?

They should have enough money to buy out Monty. They have all the leftover donations from people who chipped in to outbid Temple.

When I said "find" the money I took the "other reason(s)" into consideration, and just focused on the money. My choice.
As you pointed out very simply, dc1, a big part of it IS about budget and lack of funds. Almost EVERYTHING at Northern is about budget and lack of funds. Frazier can't sneeze without somebody asking how much he's spending on the tissues, and somebody else asking "where's mine?"
"Find" means having it AND being able to spend it without getting tangled up in all that. It's not just a matter of deciding whether it's even necessary to bring in someone else to fix perceived internal/cultural problems. And then there's the fact that making such a change not only has to be explained but defended within the university community.
I do not see a change coming for all those reasons. It is what it is.

RE: Jaylen Key leaving....
Can someone, anyone, who's following the details of this thread more closely than I am list who's going/gone so far? Who's left? Lot of names floating around here. I posted two who are coming in (Tyler Cochran, 6-3, point guard, and Keenon Cole, 6-7, power forward). Thanks in advance.

RE: Jaylen Key leaving....
Most of this is simply cutting fat from the roster. Danowski and Demogerontis are fat. Plain and simple. Not needed. Not wanted. Don't play (yes...Demogerontis was hurt, but a complete non-factor).
Key leaving is probably a blessing in disguise. He's never been as good as he was his freshman season and this season looked like a shell of himself. He'd probably be a detriment since he'd have to play due to being a senior and having experience in the system.
Richie is the only one I'm disappointed to see leave. And to be honest, I don't think he played well enough to warrent a move to a better program, but I liked how he played. He played hard. All the time. And he's got some skill shooting behind the arc, which is a benefit especially with his size and position (ie, he's not a guard).
Ultimately though, it's been rumored there is a 5th. If it's Tyler Oehlberg.....I'll be devastated. Seriously though, I don't want to see anyone else leave, but at the top of the list would be German and/or James. (with an honorable mention to Rod Henry-Hayes).
Who knows, maybe Monty turns one of these scholarships into Rashaun Agee?

McCARTY is thinking about leaving. I personally feel this would be a mistake by him. He has a coach that trusts him and he has a very good chance at starting. I feel he is a borderline D1 player so I think he’s lucky to be here.

Seems like we will sign a couple of JUCO players. Monty will be scouting the Rec(Rug) Center for additional players.

He's a role player. An extremely valuable role player (especially considering that he and James are the ONLY big men on the roster). With that said, he absolutely should be starting next season. I figured the started would be Key, but now that he's transferring, there's no scenario in which McCarty doesn't start.

And look at EMU. Losing all 3 freshman they recruited this year along with 2 of the 4 sophomores they recruited last year. They are currently recruiting a literal ****-ton of Junior transfers. They've already inked three transfers with one incoming freshman.

There aren't any listed in connection to NIU. There was one guy (I can't remember his name) who played for Highland CC (I think?) but he's not listed with NIU anymore. I looked to see if he'd transferred and no one comes up associated with "Highland" (I'm pretty certain that was the JUCO) but nothing did.
