Ron Hunter to Tulane
Don't mind getting him out of our league, but he has quite a chore at Tulane who went 0-18 in the AAC this season.

That one doesn't make any sense at all, unless they threw a lot of money at him.

It's a better conference. But can he steal players from the other Louisiana schools? I am glad he is gone.

5 million for 4 years. I could "squeeze" by on that.

Better conference but still a lateral move. Money talks.

Much better conference, but can Tulane ever be competitive in the ACA. I'm not so sure.

Hadn't heard that. I have no idea where they could find, or afford, the real estate that it would require in downtown Atlanta.

Yes, they are building a new arena. I guess Hunter wanted to cash in, after 25 years at midmajors before it got too late.

Where is the new arena going to be? On some of the property that had Turner Field on it?

And sure, who would turn down the kind of dough you cited to stay at Ga State? But, Tulane will not be an easy job given the competition in the AAC.

This is over a year old, so I'm not sure if they have broken ground yet or not.

You never know, he may have family down that way. And they may more or less have given him carte blanche to revive the program. The chance to build a program the way he wants to from the ground up might have been a great temptation. And I am sure he isn't hurting for money.

But I bet about a million a year was pretty tempting too!

Wasn't that. It was more his displeasure with the Georgia State administration.

Hunter had only one year left on his deal, and the school was not returning his agents calls about talking extension. He felt he had to leave to avoid Georgia State having the ability to simply allow his contract to expire next year, and not having to pay him severance.

Ya, I read where GaSt fans were pretty pissed the AD made no real effort to keep Hunter in Atlanta. Maybe they couldn't match Tulane's offer, but they could have possibly could have kept him if they made a reasonable effort to sweeten his contract.
