Attendance at yesterdays game
Any rough estimate for number of Bearcat fans at the game yesterday? I sat with my brother and a friend and we estimated about 10K UC fans, about 5K other fans (Iowa/Tenn/Colgate/random other fans), and 5K empty.
Is this the makings of a.mid major program?

At least half were UC. The NCAA should take notice. Watching some other games I saw a lot of empty seats.
Message to NCAA is try to keep as many teams as possible local so it is drivable as we know airlines screw the last minute flyer.

RE: Attendance at yesterdays game
It wasn't helped that, on TV, there was a large section of empty seats visible every time the camera panned down the court. Those empty seats eventually filled in with Tennessee Orange, so they were "sold" seats... When the camera went "wide," you could see that most of the upper bowl was filled and there was a large contingent of Red prominent throughout the arena. But for the start of the game, just based on the close-court shots, you'd swear nobody was there.

This is why I've always wondered why the NCAA didn't adopt the NIT model for first round games...then again, it's clearly because of money (even concessions were $4-$6 more expensive yesterday per any item than they normally are for Blue Jackets games according to a vendor I talked to). It just would be so cool to see those environments.

UC fans were great. The Nationwide site sold out and had one of the highest re-sale markets in the tourney.

^This. We went yesterday. If the game is within an 8 hour drive we go...Nashville, Columbus, DC, Atlanta, etc. If it requires flying we can't.
Bearcat Nation came out. I am sure the NCAA took notice. The ticket prices via resell sites reflected the demand.
I thought the crowd yesterday was at least 50% UC if you count those in Red. But there were plenty of UC fans in black too. Based on the crowd noise it was 75% UC. It was certainly as close as you would ever get to a home court for the Bearcats in the NC2A.

This.
This is why the loss ticked me off even more. We had it lined up for 4 straight home games, plus a very driveable Final Four location (Minneapolis).

Look for a drop in season ticket sales and attendance next season...unless there is a coaching change.

True Columbus Louisville Minneapolis even better than 92 Dayton KC Minneapolis.

Why were tickets so expensive? I could find nothing cheaper than 120 after fees for nose bleeds.

Demand drove the prices up. Right after the brackets were announced you could get 200 level for $60. By Monday $120-130 for the same seats.

I have friends from Columbus going to the games for free tomorrow. I imagine they were tickets held by UC fans.

Yep. It was actually bad for ticket sales, concession sales, souvenir sales, hotel rooms, restaurants, etc. that UC lost. UC losing cost CBus $.
Large majority of the NCAA crowd hopped in their cars and headed down 71 after the game or after Session 1 ended instead of staying for the weekend or at least spending money over two days if they drove down and back.

Instead pf staying and watching TN and then dinner in German Village we just left which I think a lot did, cost local businesses a lot. Would have been back Sunday.

Good thread. At least something went right Friday.
Kudos to the Bearcat Nation

We did the same. Left mid way through the UT Colgate game and headed home instead of stopping at Schmidts or the Mohawk. Would've driven back up today.
UC's loss was Columbus' loss.
