WMU's Buster Bronco to appear on CBS comedy 'The Neighborhood' Monday
KALAMAZOO, Mich.--Western Michigan University and its beloved mascot, Buster Bronco, are featured in an episode of the CBS comedy "The Neighborhood," airing at 8 p.m. Monday, March 25, Eastern and Pacific time.
Starring Cedric the Entertainer as Calvin Butler and Max Greenfield as Dave Johnson, "The Neighborhood" depicts two newly neighbored families getting to know each other in a Los Angeles community. Dave, who hails from Kalamazoo, moved his family from Michigan to LA, becoming next-door neighbors to the Butlers.
In the episode in which Buster Bronco appears, a CBS news release states that, "When Calvin and Dave's college basketball teams go head to head, Dave surprises the Butlers with tickets to the game and also invites one of his best friends from Michigan." This Michigan friend reveals surprising new details about Dave.
According to CBS' description of "The Neighborhood," the sitcom offers a view into "what happens when the friendliest guy in the Midwest moves his family to a neighborhood in Los Angeles where not everyone looks like him or appreciates his extreme neighborliness." Cedric the Entertainer's character, Calvin, "is wary of the newcomers, certain that the Johnsons will disrupt the culture on the block."
Catch the show Monday, March 25, to find out what happens in its latest installment.
"The Neighborhood" also stars Beth Behrs, Tichina Arnold, Sheaun McKinney, Marcel Spears and Hank Greenspan.

It is a shame it is the coked out Buster instead of the high as a kite Buster.

Sounds like he's playing himself in that blurb, and is not just a stand-in. So does this mean Western Michigan University itself will get a shout-out in the episode? Definitely watching.

Also, I prefer Old Buster as much as the next guy, but New Buster is overly criticized. It's like 'they changed it for one reason or another. Deal it with.' He's grown on me.

We are in the West Regional Final and only down by 7! Awesome! Looks fake though, too many people wearing WMU gear at the game. You'd expect to see more UM, MSU, and some ND thrown in there.

I wonder if this is some USC grads way of thanking WMU for letting the blind snapper get in the game 2 years ago.

Apparently the main characters in the show are from Michigan so it makes sense probably a writer or two is from Michigan and has some ties to Western Michigan University.

Or maybe in a round-about-way you're right: The USC-grad writers/producers/whatever decided to have their characters be from Michigan, and because of the WMU/USC football game, decided to give WMU a call.

Up until tonight, the nationally televised sitcom with the most WMU references/imagery was a 1990s episode of Home Improvement where Tim went to Kzoo and Diether Haenicke made a cameo.

Good to see the gobs of Bronco stuff on a prime-time sitcom, it was like an infomercial. The comedic writing itself...? Well, it's no Seinfeld. Might've chuckled just once. But still good to see.
