Choose one from list A. and one from list B. and combine to cover each of the past nine NCAA Tournaments:
A.
bad seed line for us
bad match-up for us
bad travel distance for us
bad altitude for us
bad start time for us

B.
offensively challenged today
defensively challenged today
the other team made unbelievable shots
we missed shots we normally make
the one official had it in for UC player x (but you know I can't comment on officiating)

Please feel free to write-in additional selections.

Seriously folks, we have this thread most every year at this time and nothing changes come March. We're still filling open scholarships with guys who can't shoot and expecting different results. The number of players who are recruited and immediately redshirted is indicative of a talent issue when competing at this level. If a coaching change occurred after this year you can bet there would be major personnel changes in the short run.

And please, let's not compare our consecutive tournament appearances with Gonzaga only to get laughed out of any conversation with serious students of the game who reside outside I-275. That school has been to the national championship game during this same time frame.

talent and recruiting the wins games. We are well by AAC but lack the depth to make a seriousrun. It also would be nice to play a team that isn’t top 20 in offense, which really exposes our depth problem.

Maybe shoot for the NIT next year? Not too many top 20 offenses there.

I think we take a step back and congratulate this group on getting a conference tournament championship and making the tournament.

We also need to hold the coaching staff accountable for the lack of talent on the roster. The bench stunk all year. You have to recruit better than Fredricks, Moore, and our two backup bigs. You also have to play Logan Johnson more minutes because he is your future.

His gaudy record would be half of what it is if we consistently played in a major conference. If mid major season or conf. titles are your cup of tea, then he is your guy, I WANT MUCH MORE. WE DESERVE MORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we are doing just fine. We lost to a very good big 10 team that shoots 3's exceptionally. Coach Cronin brought UC out of the ashes of oblivion after taking over a disastrous non-recruiting year by andy kennedy. We'll be just fine. We have the most victories over the past 3 yrs except for Gonzaga. 9 straight NCAA appearances, dude. Expecting uc to win the national championship every year is not going to happen. Kentucky doesn't even see that happen with all their money power and cheating. Maybe you would rather see UC in the NIT and winning that one. I DON'T THINK SO. Congrats on a great year, Coach Cronin, and next year might be even a better year. Continue with your recruiting of good, decent young men that love school. We see where Huggies is at now.

I don't expect a national championship every year, I would just like to be in contention once in a while. It's not going to happen under Cronin.

Exactly, I do expect some Sweet 16 and Elite 8. His style of play doesn't win in March!

RE: CRONIN
Listening to Hoard and Nelson on radio. Hoard posed a great question late in the game when losing was apparent. Don't remember exact wording but it went something like: Do great offensive teams win more in the NCAA than great defensive ones? Nelson said defensive was important, but if you can't score what good is a great defense.

My thought was simple. No such thing as a shutout in basketball.

I've been reading a lot of the Mick guys posting on twitter that Mick has recruited shooters and they have listed Trevor Moore as an example. It made me think to a couple other issues with the recruiting philosophy here and how a couple times some have brought up comparisons to Coach Fickell's philosophy.

Mick likes to recruits in the South and on the east coast. Reminds of Coach Fickell's comments on why he recruits Ohio/Midwest guys instead of the locations that were favored by Tubbs and CBJ. Fick says he gets the local guys because he knows those programs and how those kids have been coached. Made me think about the decision to get a Trevor Moore in Houston instead of a shooter out of Greater Cincinnati/NKY, Dayton or somewhere else in the state.

The other issue with recruiting, which has been discussed many times is not bringing in guys to challenge the guys on the roster. Competition just makes everyone in the room better. If some guys don't like it then maybe they are not right for the program. Coach Fick is continuing to bring in guys-- we got 4 RBS on the roster right now that arguably would be starting in most eras of this football program. We have 2 QBs in Desmond Ridder and Ben Bryant and they just brought in another stud. By all accounts Fickell has an open QB competition in the hopes that the competition will result in everyone playing a step above their talent level.

He is right. Get more talent and become a protected seed every year so you can play a crap team in the first game.

From CUSA, to the Big East, to the AAC.. Mick pulled us out of the ditch when he got here (read the Forgotten Bearcats) and has kept us relevant during the upheaval of the AAC years (look at UCONN).. If we are getting in the tournament,, we've got a chance to make a run.. I prefer that to UConn's situation.. Little disappointed right now,, but it was a great year...Go Cats..

One of less then 10 coaches who has made 9 straight NCAA tournaments, who is averaging 30 wins over his last 3 years. Yeah, I'm sure there are plenty of teams that haven't made an NCAA tournament in multiple years who would hate to have him.

If Mick wanted to coach outside of Cincinnati he could do so easily and get paid more then he is here.
