5 straight turnovers to start the 2Q. Down by 3.

Yes, sloppy TOs, but Marquette is playing very tight defense, as well. And Marquette has been call for traveling 3 or 4 times already. We need to tighten up our parimeter defense.

Erica scored first with a 3 ... but a nifty inside shot around Mulkey gives Marquette a 4-3 lead.

Another 3 ... and Rice leads 6-4 at 5:42.

BOB predicted this early lead in the pregame...

By playing 25 or, 6-4

... and some good Marquette shooting.

Two Rice head-scratchers: One Marquette player simply took the ball from an Owl standing near the top of the circle. Later, Mulkey missed a mid-range jump shot ... but didn't follow, so there were no Rice players to contend for the rebound.

Marquette's best player has two fouls too.

Pretty brutal game offensively for both teams so far.

There is nothing an NCAA tournament ref likes more than calling a charge.

Refereeing seems to be different on different sides of the court

agreed, and nothing can quite suck the life out of a game like having every player be afraid to drive to the basket.

Not sure how that one on Rainey is a foul, either. The refs seem reluctant to call defensive fouls, but lots of other whistles, from travelling to offensive fouls.

Marquette has shown some very good defense... that seems to contribute to their fast pace.

Well we've been a 2nd half team lately. So let's hope that trend continues.
