Missouri State's upset win at Iowa State probably gets them into the top 25.

I agree that there were three potential calls that went Duke's way down the stretch (Williamson charged before that basket - and then there may have been a push off after he missed the FT). And then on UCF's final drive, the UCF guard might have been fouled as well. But Duke also was called for quite a few fouls - and they didn't reverse a key call with 2 minutes to go. For once, Duke didn't get a critical call go their way.

I can not believe Dawkins' follow tip didn't go down. And the missed jam was also a key, key play.

Ultimately, Duke survives but I don't see them being good enough to win the NCAA title unless today was a real aberration. They're not deep, and that one guard is a huge liability on offense. UCF wasn't even playing him to shoot at all. Every shot he had was wide open and he was like 1-8 in 3-pointers?

I probably agree that the ball didn't touch the rim, but I also don't think it was indisputable.

The blueprint is out there on how to beat Duke. Pack the paint and make everybody shoot. There will be games where they make their shots, but there's nothing you can do except let everybody shoot (excluding Reddish and Barrett) and hope they have a cold night. No team is gonna guard Jones or Goldwire the rest of the tournament. That said, no other team has a 7-6 shot blocker inside.

They still have far and away the highest ceiling of any remaining team. And I'd still say they're the overwhelming favorite. But they're not invincible. You are gonna need them to have a bad shooting game while you have a really good shooting game, though.

That, and the refs need to start calling charges on Zion on a regular basis. Yes, they called one on him late, but he charges almost every time he drives to the basket.

Yeah, I'm wondering whether the refs would have called that a charge if it wasn't Zion. I know refs are supposedly unbiased, but I never fully buy it. Not in a conspiracy theory way, but I'm convinced certain players get different whistles and refs are more likely to make a call depending on circumstance. Like if an arena is going crazy during a big run and a ref calls a clear block a charge in favor of the home team because he gets caught up in the moment.

Anyway, I'd imagine if that's a random point guard, it's a charge 7 out of 10 times.

I know this thread is supposed to be about the womens' basketball game (once again, great season!), but because this did digress to Duke - well, they've got live footage of the NCAA interfering with the end of the game.

Any knowledge as to Langley's salary, and what efforts are being made to keep her at Rice?

Rick Mello told me last night that every effort will be made to keep her. However, she is very happy at Rice, and has a special bond with her returning team. She's also become close friends with Coach Bloom (this from Bloom).

Seems like it would be a good idea to give her a salary bump and new contract now... and increase the buyout.

I would imagine the thought has occurred.

Nothing will be announced until deals are final.

Langley is listed in the "rising talent" section of names to consider for Tennessee position.
Quote:Tina Langley
Current job: Rice coach

If you can't get Frese, how about Frese's protégé? Langley, 45, spent seven seasons on Frese's staff at Maryland, the final five as associate coach.

Rice has been on an upward trajectory throughout Langley's tenure. The Owls won the Women's Basketball Invitational to cap her second season before reaching the WNIT's second round in Year 3. Now comes the greatest success. Rice set a program record with 28 wins this season and made its third NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

Langley is an Alabama native who played for West Alabama and began her coaching career at a high school in the state. She's been an assistant at Georgia, Clemson and Toledo.

We're probably the nations leader in unconventional wisdom, handing out unprecedented extensions to people no one wants and botching the ones with people we do.

While I feel that the current AD and staff are not Greenspany, Rice doesn't have a great track record on stuff like this. Several of the people who agreed to hire Greenspan are still here (which basically destroys any credibility they have). I'm terrified until the ink is dry.
