ICB is dead on. The era in which we live is extremely disappointing. No one wants to be accountable for anything.

Any “staff” associated with the current UAB program should realize themselves that the place we are currently in is unacceptable. Rather than spending time criticizing the fans for their own shortcomings. That’s the definition of biting the hand that feeds you.

If you can’t take criticism as someone associated with coaching a team, then you have no business being at a place where there are expectations. You think our fan base is picky? You don’t have a clue. Try being at a place where the expectation isn’t just to get to the NCAA tournament. But getting to Sweet 16s and Elite 8s.

Message boards are frequently negative places ... particularly when things aren’t going as expected. That’s not unique to UAB.

Excellent points. My dream is for UAB to really become Birmingham's teams. I want to see the new stadium AND the new arena maxed out for UAB games. That's going to mean band-wagon fans by the thousands. The town will rock when we win and when we lose the moaning and bitching will be epic. All part of being a big time program.

I can't wait.

What the athletic department staff needs to be concerned with are the thousands of fans who have disconnected themselves from the program. I have purchased 4 season tickets for the last 12 years, if we have a schedule like this year, I won’t be renewing. I’m not just talking home games, we need a non conference schedule that if you had success would have you in the conversation for an at large. Play fewer SWAC/D2 schools and go on the road if you must. That’s what they need to be concerned about.

Thank you. I'll gladly pay the same price for my season tickets with 13 home games vs 16. Take three home games against SWAC/D2 teams and instead go play a quality team on the road.

Where has staff criticized the fans? I must have missed that one.

It was a manager reacting to one post. Somehow that conflates to BlazerTalk being a cesspool. A mountain out of a molehill.

I am enjoying more civil discussion and debate. Not reading people calling each other idiots and our fan base dumbasses is a great improvement.

The same folks have been on here for years. It shouldn't be that difficult to treat each other with respect. Start from there and an improved tone comes naturally.

Just because you want a new coach doesn't mean you do not love the program any more than someone that's tired of the negativity not wanting what is best for the program. Getting it off your chest is a good thing IMHO as long as it is not overboard. I have said my peace about it all and that's why I don't go on and on about it because it does no good and is a waste of my time.

It was one of the managers.

To be more precise it is an incoming manager. He is a senior in high school.

So not even in school yet and it translates into staff. That’s what I am talking about. We can be critical but no sense in eggagerating and it’s not his fault as he was reposting what was seen in another thread. Sure be critical am when warranted.

This is pretty surprising to me. I'd always argued against the "players/recruits/managers read this" narrative because it's 2019 and forums are becoming more and more rare. I can't believe someone that young would bother to navigate away from Twitter, Instagram and Reddit. Maybe he could use his free time to update the team Wikipedia. I updated a lot of it last year, but it's nowhere near complete.

Uh, since this has turned into a complaining thread...would it be possible for the mods to keep topics on track? I know I'm personally guilty of this, but I hate that literally every hoops thread turns into a coaching search thread.

Hey now, we get to read about the history of Alabama football in at least 50% of the threads here too.

I thought of this post today when I read these comments from ESPN's Scott Van Pelt:

"People seem to have a real issue when they’re held accountable, or others are too harshly,” he continued. “We’re so concerned with whether or not someone’s had their feelings hurt that we lose sight of this fact. Life has a scoreboard. The world will be difficult, and we do nobody any favors when we coddle them to the point that they never hear criticism, or hear a harsh word, or have to face any adversity."

I have been a member of this site for well over a decade, I have seen high and lows...but I have been having to skip almost all bball threads on here cause they just five down into unrealistic dread and tearing if clothes and ashes. You want a new coach...no problem...you want to express how upset you are...please do...but can we get realistic and understand the things we are commenting on? That is all I am saying. There are a lot of uninformed opinions of some that have no idea what general basketball scheme and knowledge is.

Every one is entitled to voice their feelings, just be realistic and remember there are people that read this and they do have feelings. They want to succeed as much as we want them to.

I learned this lesson the hard way back when Brandon Tobias was on the team. I was in stands and very frustrated at his free throw shooting. He went to line and I made a remark how fouling him was just like a UAB turnover.....his parents were in front of me. Had no idea and it helped me to remember, these are people with families doing their best. Hold them accountable, for sure...but try and be civil.

Just kidding. Most of the posters here are just average folks that love UAB. The opinions aren't gonna be expert but as long as they are respectful the more the merrier. I also think you can criticize Coach Ehsan or Mark Ingram without being disrespectful to either.

Late in his tenure watson’s daughter was sitting in front of me at a game. It did not end well

The core issue with UAB Athletics and its relationship with its fans is that there is no trust between the UAB leadership and its fans. Any decision they make, good or bad is going to be seen through that lens.

It's an environment that breeds polarization in a fan base. That said, most everyone that posts here does so because they deeply care about UAB athletics. I think a place that exists to provide a forum for UAB sports fans to chat about, cheer for and voice concern over all things UAB athletics could not have a more perfect name than to be named in honor of Gene Bartow.

You mean Ingram conspired to kill UAB Football while he was still employed at Temple, because you do realize he was hired at UAB May 1, 2015.

Just being a stickler for facts. I don't always agree with what he has done, but I believe he has done a better job than I think most predecessors, except Gene, of course, have or could have done. This discussion is likely for a new thread.

I and many other UAB fans that tend to be a little more optimistic about the Blazers in many areas tend to stay away from the message boards now, because it seems lately they have become overly negative.

I don't see a name change is needed. Maybe just bringing back some of the upbeat fans.

You lay out the problem and the solution in the same post. If you think there is too much negativity, post something positive. If somebody responds with snark, just ignore it. The internet is 80% snark these days. It's a choice to participate in it.

There are a lot of good things happening down within UAB athletics. There are also some problem areas. We need more (respectful) discussion about all of it, not less.
