Not gonna comment on the first sentence. But the second is simultaneously true and false.

Agreed - anyone who believes the next four years are going to go according to “plan” doesn’t understand life. Nothing goes according to “plan” in life over a four year span. I’d bet dollars to donuts a lot will change between now and then.

If you are talking about JJ's plan (or lack of one) then it probably will go accordingly. Poor recruiting with no big men. Dull unexciting style of play. A 3-6 seed in the CUSA tourney and being eliminated after 1 game. No post season invites. Watch VCU, UVA, W&M & VaT in the post season play! That is the plan as well as the norm.

W&M has never been to the NCAA’s. Might want to come down off your hate with false representations.

Grant was at VCU for three years. They finished in 1st place all three times.
Shaka was at VCU for 6 years. They finished in first place....... 0 times.

Shaka and company owe Grant a big chunk of $$$ in my opinion.

And that Dayton team is his squad. He brought in Obi Toppin and Crutcher and company. They might have a couple role players left over but get real. He’s been awesome.

Again totally agree, grant is a damn good coach and his players LOVE playing for him you can see it on their sideline every game.

Grant is a players coach! When they are playing good you see him high fiving the players, hugging, chest bumping, etc. But when they make a mistake you don't see him run out to the middle of the court to chastise a player in front of everybody. I'm sure he has some choice words for them during the timeout but not where it is noticeable. Players respect that from a coach. JJ doesn't get respect from his players, instead they try to stay as far away from him as they can when on the bench. Plus Grant recruits better players than JJ and doesn't have to get as frustrated. He also has a system the players like to play and recruits players that are comfortable with it.

As has been noted several times on here, this is 100% false. I know you want to believe kids don't like JJ because he screams, but its not backed up by reality.

so you're saying 19-21 yr old kids don't mind being singled out in front of the world and berated like they were a piece of crap! That the only reason they walk right by JJ on the sidelines while he is going off on them is because they don't have anything to say to him and choose to sit at the end of the bench as far from JJ as possible because those seats are more comfortable. The ones that have stayed are either not in his doghouse or afraid not to make a scene. The ones that have left just couldn't take any more and knew JJ wasn't going to change his mind on their abilities to play his style of ball. Why did he recruit them in the first place?

You are clueless, even good kids do stupid stuff. The reason the two that left this year had ZERO to do with JJ. They did stupid stuff and didn’t have the balls to face the consequences. Instead they chose to runaway like immature spoiled crybabies.

RE: Future of ODU Basketball
You guys are absolutely correct! I am clueless and don't like JJ! I don't like the direction this program is going under JJ. Few rivalries, lackluster games, teams survive year to year with little to no future expectations, absolutely no post season excitement, etc etc. The way I see it is all of this falls directly on JJ shoulders. He is responsible and in control of this team and its future. I like excitement, and anticipation and we have been lacking that for some time now. Oh hell, why go on your just gonna site statistics that counter everything I just said. I am going strictly on gut feeling and this is how I feel.

I was just talking about life in general. A lot usually changes in four years. Just look back to where you were four years ago, and I’m sure a lot has changed (ie marriage, child, death of a loved one, job change/loss, or some other significant life change). It’s just the way life works. There is an expression: “if you want to make God laugh, then tell him your plan” (b/c it’s not going to go the way you think it will). I honestly don’t think Jones will be with the program four years from now.

That would be awesome. I hope it happens and then JJ retires going out on a high note.

RE: Future of ODU Basketball
Next year I only feel comfortable with Curry, Wade (if recovered) & Reece as our return players. Green is not the player we expected, Oliver is streaky but haven't seen anything yet to make me think he is a quality starter, Ezipke (my favorite player) can't stay on the court more than 5 mins and therefore no production, Hunter & Pilavios are Division II at best. So we enter next year with possibly 3 good (not great) players and a handful of BIG question marks. Add to that JJ's inability to recruit BIG men and I don't see how anything changes from this year except for possibly getting worse. With Carver gone, who rebounds? Next years team will be very weak under the basket and rebounding. I hate to say it but we are still on a downward spiral!

This is the most positive statement I've read here in months. But sooner would be more positive.

RE: Future of ODU Basketball
Green will be the key next year. I can't remember having a player as talented and successful have such a down year (unless it was injury related). I wish I knew what happened with him but he has zero confidence right now.

Curry/Hunter
Wade/Oliver
Green
Reece
Ezikpe/Karaiskos

O'Connell will add some depth on the wing. We are actually one of the best rebounding teams in the country. Carver and Ezikpe are two of the best (Carver..the best) rebounders in the conference. Reece/Wade/Oliver all all very good rebounders for their positions.

Would like to see a backup for Reece and another point guard with 2 of the spots. Need to get a PG in the system for a year to be ready to backup Hunter the following year. Save the 13th spot for if someone comes onto the market. I think one of those is going to be filled shortly after the semester ends.
