Murderer, alleged cop killer accused in jail attack
Quote:ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Two high-profile inmates, an accused cop killer and a convicted murderer, are suspected of joining forces Tuesday night to stab another prisoner for disrespecting one of them in a linen dispute at the county jail.

Now Davon Lymon, 36, and Yoan Santiesteban, 33, both face charges of possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner and tampering with evidence. Santiesteban is also charged with aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm. Another inmate, Larry Daugherty, 47, is charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner and tampering with evidence because he allegedly flushed the weapon down the toilet after the crime was committed.

Deputies say Santiesteban stabbed Aaron Clark, 27, repeatedly then “slyly” gave the weapon to Lymon who slid it under a cell door where it was flushed by Daugherty.

Clark was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital to be treated for multiple stab wounds across his arms, back and head as well as a dislocated shoulder. He was in the jail infirmary Wednesday night.

Both Lymon and Santiesteban are expected to go to trial for their previous cases next week. Lymon is charged with murder. Police say he shot and killed Albuquerque police officer Daniel Webster during a traffic stop in 2015.

And Santiesteban will be tried for murder in the death of 44-year-old Samir Al-Abboudy, one of three people he is accused of killing during a May 2017 crime spree.

Santiesteban’s first trial – for the shooting death of Celina Arrelanes, 27 – ended in a hung jury. He was convicted during his second trial for the death of 25-year-old Matthew Severinghaus.

The pair’s most recent troubles with the law began when Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a stabbing at the Metropolitan Detention Center around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

At the hospital, Clark told detectives he was preparing for lockdown and the lights were off when he was attacked.

“He didn’t know how it happened, nor did he know who did it,” a criminal complaint states. “Additionally he didn’t want to pursue criminal charges … ”

Santiesteban told detectives he attacked Clark after the two men got into an argument over linen and he felt “disrespected.” Deputies say Santiesteban told them it was a fistfight and no weapon was used, however surveillance video contradicts this. According to the complaint, surveillance video showed Santiesteban “bumping into” Lymon outside the cell after the fight and “slyly” handing him an object.

“Then Lymon walks toward cell 8 and slides the object underneath the door,” a detective wrote.

Lymon denied any involvement in the incident.

However, deputies say, this was also contradicted by the surveillance camera footage.

Clark has been in the county jail since June. According to online court records he was being held without bail after being charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and shooting at or from a motor vehicle.
