RE: NCAA Tournament
Wofford has now won 21 games in a row. Their only losses this year were to UNC, Kansas, Oklahoma and Miss State. They just flat play hard on both ends of the court. A Kentucky team without PJ Washington better come ready to play on Sat., or Wofford may be this year's Cinderella.

A bad day for Northeastern. They went 0 for 2 today. Their women lost in the WNIT to Butler.

CAA 0-3 so far, with 3 women's games still left.

For those who don't know, Wofford is a VERY small private school in SC. When I say very small, I mean fewer than 1,700 students. My HS has 2,500. Their living alumni wouldn't fill JMU's current enrollment. But, somehow, they constantly put out competitive football and, apparently, a good basketball team.

Probably helps that one of those alumni just sold the Carolina Panthers.

probably so and Williamsburg has a Catholic school his children could go to; that was the problem at JMU

Don't look now but another Tony Shaver alum pulling an upset in round 1 this year.

So, uh, UVA, if you want to rage-fire Tony Bennett and send him to W&M as punishment, we can work something out.

We’re no chumps and we’re not done yet. Russell with Blaine Taylor at his side. Blaine’s a genuine veterano with these things.

Do you think S. Huge knows just how many great college coaches have ties to Tony Shaver. Great win for Russell Turner, former HSC player for Tony.

How many NCAAT appearances for GMU since they left the CAA?

The A10 ain't what it used to be. Sure their budgets are higher, but their basketball product is closer kin to the CAA than ACC.

Like NJ says, it's not all about the tournament. Do you think they regret leaving? They may be nostalgic for the CAA's glory days, but I promise you they would make the same choice if they could do it over again.

Maybe, but the point is that the Atlantic 10 is a mid major and the CAA is not. That's reflected in the media rights deals and, ultimately, the amount of money that flows into the College.

I don't mean to focus on the Atlantic 10 specifically; when the next round of realignment comes to pass, who knows what individual conferences are going to end up looking like (or even still exist). The point is that in each round, there are winners and losers. Last time around, we were firmly a loser, effectively relegated from a mid major to a one-bid league. We need to get in a position so that won't be the case the next time around.

I also would love to see their average attendance last 10 years. I would bet it has declined since their CAA days.

I don't think they would look back though. The A10 was in trouble with their big teams leaving - Temple, Xavier, Butler - and needed an infusion of markets and excitement. The CAA provided that short term.

In truth, neither the A10 or CAA has improved their stock since the moves. Among members, one of the biggest losers in all this I think has been UR which now has to deal with a local program overshadowing them in their conference. One of the winners from all this so far is W&M. Our stock has grown within the new look CAA.

Oof. Totally disagree. The pond's gotten a whole lot smaller, but that's not a good thing. Just think how high our stock would be if we went to the ODAC.

RE: NCAA Tournament
Also worth mentioning, I noticed in Day 1 of the tourney (Thursday), I saw two ads, which were very well done, for NU. They were on two different networks carrying the games. That was a smart move for NU and showed they certainly were looking to broaden their exposure on their game day beyond basketball.

Didn't hurt the CAA either to have our standard bearer broadening their exposure.

Double oof.

On factors of team RPI ratings, conference performance and attendance, I think the facts would show definite improvement. What measures would you use to back up we haven't improved our stock the last 5 years?

A10 is a better league for hoops, but not for baseball and other sports like soccer.
