I would expect Dane to have the class to do so. He seems to be that sort of guy.

Great guy. Fine coach. I am confident he understands the career that he chose and what comes with that.
Tony did everything the contract required him to do, but was fired anyway. Think he has grounds for an age discrimination suit?
No. I mean, I can give you a deeper dive, but the answer is no. Virginia is an at-will state. They decided they no longer wanted to be party to the contract, and terminated the contract per the agreed-upon terms in the contract.

RE: Increased Commitment to MBB (or Rising Standards)
I doubt many people interpret "One Tribe One Family" to mean "all people currently employed when this motto first appeared are able to stay forever"
but YMMV
FWIW, I'm not super happy with how all of it was handled. But it happened and it is what it is. I just don't see how saying "sorry we fired you" changes anything. Especially because the leadership that made the decision is probably not sorry, or they wouldn't have done it.

Increased Commitment to MBB (or Rising Standards)
Playing devil's advocate, IF Huge somehow mustered the heart to attempt anything worthy of honoring Tony, I don't think he'd show to accept the "honor."

I think it would bother me more if they attempted to do anything with Tony early in Dane's tenure. You have a new coach trying to get his own program off the ground. You want to "honor" what Tony did for W&M 5 years from now? Sure, why not. I think Tony would show when this all isn't so fresh and a distraction from what Dane is trying to do.

Increased Commitment to MBB (or Rising Standards)
Huge won't be here in 5 years...new AD wants to focus on relationship with fanbase/donors...makes it a priority to heal that wound...yep, that does make sense (no sarcasm).
For the record, I don't think the current administration should do anything to honor Tony. It would come off as totally disingenuous. Let him relax, collect his paid leave, and show him some love in a few years.

RE: Increased Commitment to MBB (or Rising Standards)
No apology because it won't change anything, Tony wouldn't accept same, and it would be a distraction to Dane?
For those of you who are Christians, when did we stop behaving like Christians? When the Wren cross was put under glass?
Tony's firing was handled poorly, at best, and abysmally, at worst. There's an acknowledged wound. The prevailing sentiment is to let this wound heal on its own. Some wounds do not heal, unless they are actively treated. An apology, and restoration of Tony to the Tribe community, heals this wound. Not even debatable.
Besides being the right thing to do, doesn't cost the school a dime, and will generate increased revenue.
I'm going to the game Saturday. The tickets were bought yesterday. The seats are in the same section where I had four season tickets last year. Food for thought.
