Because he play at UAB

He's got a decade of SEC coaching, and he's a known name both in Blazer and area hoops circles.

He's an obvious choice. Too obvious for this cynical Blazer fan. Why it will never happen. Nothing is ever that easy for us.

Gotta note that his last season at Ole Miss the team was 11-16 when he stepped down. Then they get to the NCAA under Kermit the next year.

I'm not convinced that AK would be the best available option if the job did open up.

Took 7 years to get them to the NCAAs. Rob is not getting 7. Heads are exploding after three. I have nothing against him. I just want a real coaching search if we do end up making a change in the future.

I know we have a coach for next year but if our job was open, I would look hard at the SoCon. Several good coaches and most of the schools are pretty good academically. They would be used to recruiting to a tough academic environment and not, say, Troy or most of CUSA.

Norton was extended deservedly so, through 2023.

I’m a fan of Norton, support him, and hopes he continues to improve...
BUT...
People complain about not being impressed by the men beating bad teams (which I get). However, if you really look at it, the women have piled up wins against bad teams. I was surprised when I took a close look at the women’s schedule...really, not very impressive when you look at how the ladies performed against teams with a winning record.

So, why the different standards?

Women’s basketball much like football hasn’t seen much of any success, not that I can remember. Therefore folks will show leniency to not making the dance. Also, no matter the success, the common sports fan don’t care much about women’s athletics. That’s whether the ladies host Miles or Auburn.

Men’s basketball is supposed to be known as our top sport and it’s done nothing but regress. It’s held to a standard of postseason or bust, because that’s what it used to be known for doing. Norton’s teams have gotten better each year. He still has an opportunity tomorrow to surpass last year with a win.

The talent and physicality in women’s basketball has a wider margin from top to bottom as well, my opinion. Played those manly women of Georgia tech last season and you could see the huge difference.

Norton will eventually have to start playing some more quality teams, beating them if he wants to get into the NCAA tournament and there’s going to come a time over the next 2-3 seasons where he’s judge on that. I imagine he’s hired away before folks get really concerned about not making the NCAA tournament.

He got a regular season title last season and they finished 2nd this season. Back to back seasons in the WNIT. There’s not much to complain about in regards to the standards that I’ve always thought we’ve held the women’s program, too. As or if the women continue to this run, the standards will rise.

However, with men’s basketball, it seems we’ve trashed all those standards and decided to wallow in self pity because we’ve been left behind in conference realignment twice.

What’s the saying? That’s comparing apples to oranges.
so, case A) Norton gets an extension because people dont care as much is way different than case B) Norton gets an extension because he really deserves it.

dont get me wrong, i think both are fine...

IF you believe that its case B, note that Norton had a LOSING conference record in 3 of his first 4 seasons. i just dont understand the folks that say Ehsan NEEDS to go now and at the same time Norton DESERVED an extension

Never found the tweet. So it really wasn’t from a coach and it was supposedly from either a manager or former manager that is now gone and we wanted to blame a coach?

That’s a really good suggestion. Makes far too much sense for us to actually do it.

Norton didn’t get an extension until he won the conference in the regular season, followed by CUsA tournament final and WNIT appearance. Ehsan got one after year 2 and finishing 6th in cusa with arguably the best player we’ve had in nearly a decade(yes, I’d put Cokley even with Robert Brown, it’s an opinion) and a rather experienced team.

Also, some folks don’t see this as just Ehsan’s 3rd season, especially if he was promoted to continue what was left behind by his predecessor. He did continue something from the previous staff, finishing at .500 in CUSA play without somebody like Robert Brown saving the day and the gods of athletics giving our school a miraculous run while football wasn’t around.

Here's a different point. Mark Ingram better get this one right. It's not like this is a sudden discussion. He should have a well thought out list in his desk drawer. Football and MBB hires are where his career rubber meets the road.

I still think that when all the talk is over that Ehsan will be our coach next season.

Lots of cheating going on around Kennedy's playing days at NC State.

Not saying he was involved, but it certainly surrounded him.

I don't think the team plays in the CBI if there was any chance that he gets let go.

i had to visit multiple different sites (UABSports, BlazerTalk, etc) to find out that the women are getting beaten by 40+ points by a team with a losing conference record.

Sure...there's no double standard

There’s not a double standard, people just don’t care about women’s basketball. That’s why nobody is there to watch a 25 win team nor bringing it up here. I’ll say straight forward, that the women don’t play nobody out of conference and that our conference getting however many bids in the WNIT was a joke. 100-52 is embarrassing, no matter who it’s against.

He followed it up with an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. Then he had family die and took the off-season off from a recruiting standpoint.
