They should put a giant curtain at the end of the playing area and sound off random horns and whistles on the other side of it. It's the way the game was meant to be played.

Reading that article really tells us where the metro B'ham area stands (if standing is the right descriptive term) in the sports spectrum - especially in football our state's only major sport. Three bowl games, three championship league games, plus Texas high school playoffs is one impressive resume - and they are adding the XFL team to play in a park replaced next year by the Rangers baseball club's new park across the street.

For decades there have been local metro leaders crying about those who envy Atlanta. I wonder if now there are those in Georgia who say they don't want to be like Dallas.

Good lord man, do you ever get tired of beating this dead horse. Bham never has and never will be in the same league as Dallas so even trying to make the comparison is ridiculous. Doesnt mean theres not a lot of positive things happening in the city. Speaking of, how much time do you spend in Bham proper? It's not all about professional sports.

IF comparisons with successful cities is "ridiculous", then what cities would be comparable? B'ham will never be Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Charleston, Dallas, Houston, St Louis, Louisville and perhaps dozens more. BTW,I lived in metro B'ham from 1941 to 2005. How does that compare to your tenure there?

Why dream of a "better conference" for UAB? Are we to be comfortable with "we will never be Bama or Auburn so any comparison is ridiculous"? There are many positives about UAB so lets just be happy we are not worse off? The UAB Athletic Department is thankful for FBHC Clark who did for it what Jesus did for Lazarus - he raised it from the dead.

Comparisons to cities exponentially larger than Birmingham is what is ridiculous. There are cities Birmingham can strive to be like right now that are more realistic. Again, what's happened in the past is done. We can either move forward with what we have or sit and cry about the past forever. One of those two options isn't going to change present day Birmingham and what it can become.

I would guess that both have ridiculous owners/people running them.
