Help Westbury Little League - breeding ground for Rice baseball
Westbury Little League is an awfully special place where numerous Rice baseball players got started. Brian Boyne was the first. He played on the 1966 Westbury Little League team that won the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. He would later play at Rice and then as high as AA in the Giants organization. John Pope played Westbury Little League in the late 70's. He later pitched at Rice and, of course, served as pitching coach. Harry Duffey played Westbury Little League in the early 80's, then for Coach Graham at San Jac, before playing for David Hall at Rice in the early 90's.

Patrick Hallmark - Westbury Little League
Jose Cruz Jr - Westbury Little League

In 1991 Philip Barzilla, Philip Ghutzman, Enrique Cruz, and I played in the same division at Westbury Little League. We reunited on the 2001 Rice team. While Barzilla and Ghutzman had moved on by 2003, Matt Ueckert joined the program, meaning 3/25 members of the 2003 National Championship team played at Westbury Little League.

At least one of my four kids has played at Westbury since 2010. I have been on the board for years. Each spring we hold an auction to help fund operations. Unlike many leagues we do not receive assistance from any municipality. One of the things we auction is the right to fly one's college flag over the complex for one year. Currently, the Longhorn is flying (right side up, unfortunately). Last year it was A&M and the year before that LSU.

It is Rice's turn!

I have created a GoFundMe. Please consider giving. Your gift is tax deductible. We are a 501c3. Our website is http://www.westburyll.org

The GoFundMe is here

My wife and I recently moved back to Westbury. It's my third residency in the neighborhood (1968-1978, 1987-1999, 2017-now). Back in the sixties we had enough kids for two full little leagues. Westbury American and Westbury National. This has always been a strong baseball area.

Also, I linked you gofundme on the "Let's be honest: we can't get a million fans for Rice University" facebook group. Hope they help too.
