It sounds like ESPN is going to help push the AAC to some extent. A Bowl for the AAC champ is likely ESPN’s doing. If a basketball conference challenge ends up happening with say the Pac12 I would think ESPN was a factor in that as well, though probably less so than with the Bowl.
Wouldn't surprise me if the "major" hoops conference is the Big East. They didn't say "Power".
Big East already has a challenge with the B10 and the B12. PAC12 is only major conference without a challenge.

And the Crosstown Shootout is our game in the challenge.

Yea, that’s why I was wondering if it’s the Pac 12. We already have a game lined up with UCLA next year and have played the last couple years. I’m guessing it will focus on top teams in the AAC like Cincy, Houston, UCF, Memphis, Wichita State, etc...
It may be the Big East, but they already have challenges set up and the Pac 12 is the only major conference without a challenge. Pac 12 May think they are above the AAC but in reality the AAC was the stronger conference in the top half and with traditional Basketball powers I listed above it would still be a pretty big draw for ESPN. If the Pac 12 wants to set up a challenge it may be their best option considering the other conferences already have challenges set up.

Correct. I could see the PAC being interested in a mini-challenge with the better brands of the AAC, of course skipping the ECU and Tulsa types. A reason the PAC would be for it is they need the ratings and exposure schools in the eastern and central time zones.

RE: New Media Deal
Could be some interesting match-ups in there with the PAC 12:
Cincinnati vs. Arizona (former Xavier coach)
UConn vs. Arizona State (Hurley vs. Hurley)
UCF vs. Stanford (Dawkins vs. his former school)
Memphis vs. UCLA (battle of blue-chip recruits)
Houston vs. Oregon (rematch, plus both Sweet 16 teams)
And that's not even including Wichita State, Temple, and USF, who would all be attractive opponents next season.

Actually, UCLA's recruiting isn't looking so hot right now, so UCLA vs. Memphis might be one-sided in terms of blue chip recruits haha.

Could we trade opponents please? We would get smoked.

Would be good exposure for both conferences and I assume ESPN would be interested in promoting such a challenge, especially if it focused on the top half of the AAC teams.

The bottom half from both conferences would play their games on ESPN3 or ESPN+
