If someone ever told me that Gayle had bad stuff I would think that they knew nothing about the game of baseball.
Careful. When Walt gets done handling Trump on twitter he will come for you.

We won a conference tourney in 2017, finished second in the always brutal LSU regional in 2017 and 2016 and had NCAA bids every year until last year. Don't rewrite history to suit your needs. It has become impossible to compete in Men's sports at Rice with the evolution of the P5, but please don't make excuses about how fast the flagship program of Rice has fallen. I will argue this is by design as the AD purposefully and willfully tried to de-emphasize Baseball in an attempt to build up basketball and football. You see the results on the field.
2017 winning the CUSA tournament was gutsy but I think we will look back at that and see it prolonged our recovery process. That team was already a step down similar to last year.

Yep. That team finished 33-31 even after winning the tournament and winning a couple of games in the regional.

FTR, I have ALWAYS stated the Gayle had elite stuff. Yes, he has a flat fastball, but he can pump it up there as high as 97 MPH, and his curve is a plus plus pitch when he can throw it for strikes.

He throws from a high delivery on a downward plane. He throws a heavy fastball with late life. You don't know what you are talking about. It was very evident watching it on TV this past Tuesday.

I Agree.
No one on the baseball team has ever met him... Other schools AD's come and visit the teams and players to introduce themselves and ask how the AD can help. NOT RICE. He has not been to any games and the players have never met him. This is actually very sad.

Great plan on his part. Come to a stepping stone program and fail to prioritize the one sport that the school has been known for. I don't understand why he isn't more popular.

Ok. Go ahead and make that argument. How could actions by the AD be responsible for the decreased performances? I don't doubt that he has shift emphasis as you say, but what is the mechanism by which he would be responsible?

We will be better this academic year than last at football; women's basketball; volleyball; men's basketball. We may or may not (believing to think not) be better this year in baseball.
Only down this year in women's soccer.
I think his hires have been solid, so far.
I guess that is a debate.

He doesn't spend much time socializing with the fans, but he's at almost every game when he's in town. He told me he only missed one game last year when his child had some activity. He's usually in his suite.

I wish we'd catch Frazier and put Collins at first. Hopefully Collins will be able to walk by the end of the season.
I believe Frazier is still nursing a hamstring or other leg injury. Would expect him to resume some catching duties once he is at full strength?
Strained knee.
What's Comeaux's status? He's out an awfully long time for simply a "stiff knee" after falling on the OU dugout steps after misjudging the foul pop.
My sources say Brandt injured his hamstring.

Yes, he stinks.
All of the major men's programs are bad and the one bright spot we had has faded away under his leadership.
When women's sports become the measuring stick for overall success we are in trouble. This is nothing against the talented ladies proudly representing Rice - it has everything to do with JK being seemingly OK with mediocrity in baseball, basketball, and football.

There is no question that JK has put less emphasis on Baseball and focused more heavily on Basketball and Football his first few years. To say that he and the prior coaching staff didn't see eye to eye would be the understatement of the year.
I think there is some promise with Bragga but I think he is going to need to prove what he and his staff can do this summer on the recruiting front. JK is not up in his suite and he has not been to the games this year, it is time he shows up as the AD to the sport that has kept Rice in D1! We need JK at the games like our border needs a Wall and like Walt needs twitter.

Given the lengths the big sports revenues schools will go to bend (break? spit on as if they did not exist?) the rules for their "student athletes" (even Duke, who run basketball teams onto the court with players who take 9 hours of courses in the fall, and do not go to school any more in their second semester, thus making "one and done" a gross overstatement), I am not sure Rice can compete in football and basketball. Maybe Rice can, but it is not a level playing field.
In baseball and women's sports, where you can more easily pitch the quality of the Rice degree as a recruitment tool, with many fewer of the pool of candidates you are recruiting projecting earning a living from the sport they are playing, we have much better shot.
Given where the school sits (one of the best recruiting areas for baseball in the country; warm weather to allow realistic year round outdoor play), not being competitive in baseball is close to a disgrace. That we are a weak program now I cannot attribute to our AD; let's see how good his new hire is, and how well he supports the new hire from a resource standpoint.

While I agree with much of the above, JK has had a clear role in the demise and downfall of the baseball program. The way he handled everything with Coach Graham was disappointing to say the least, and he hired someone completely outside the box. He also appears to have little to no interest in baseball and as a season ticket holder, I personally have not seen him at a single game this season.
It's way too early to pass judgement on the new baseball regime and based on what I have heard everything is trending in the right direction (aside from W's/L's). JK had better hope everything pans out because his hands off and outside the box approach has jeopardized our most prominent program.

Besides doing a terrible job with our three major men’s sports, does anybody think JK is likable?
He isn’t outgoing, acts like an elitist, and has no apparent affection for Rice.
