Monday Musings (a day late)
Ypsilanti has recovered from the St. Patrick's day and my stool at the pub only has a little bit of green beer on it.
Basketball went out with a whimper on Monday Night and the torches are Lit. Spotlight is on the AD.
Baseball needs some pitching Its not at the point of holding open try-outs on campus but they are giving up more runs the a neatherly defense.
Congrats on Buffalo for going wire to wire and winning the MAC tourney ensuring we are a 1 big league.

Bigger Congrats to Ypsi Lincoln (not the home district but close enough) on winning the Division 1 (formerly Class A) State championship in Basketball. If Bates stays like he says he will I think Lincoln will have to play 3-5 home games at the CONVO.
Spring practice still have a hunch we will see a big surprise at QB. Ford Field or Bust.

Saw some other posts about fundraising and my only idea was this. Go for 10,000 donors of 100 bucks a year. Maybe turn it in to a grand prize raffle to pay off 1 persons student loans on it 50,000 max. AS A school we don't have a ton of big time donors but maybe find a ton of small donors. Mind you I'm not a development person so I have no idea how this would work.
That is all from the green beer soaked bar.

RE: Monday Musings (a day late)
Lot of good points:

1). EMU will be a beneficiary of Emoni Bates and his Lincoln team. It would, indeed, be nice for them to host a big name school at the Convo. How about a re-match with UoD Jesuit???
A couple games at the Convo would be a win-win for Lincoln, Ypsilanti (the area) and EMU. Having fans from across metro Detroit come for say a UofD Jesuit / EMU game would give thousands of them a first hand look at the Convo and the new FB facilities.

2). The key in development is to go for the big campaigns every N number years. EMU could shoot for say 50 or 100M. This encourages big givers to make big gifts for specific things instead of folks making a lot of small donations. One suggestion: if EMU has a building which needs matching (EMU) funds then try to raise those funds from a campaign and then go to the state for the rest. E.g., EMU raises say 10M and the state kicks in 30M. Total 40M.

3). Unfortunately, on many levels, we no longer have the great source inside FB to help us with info. It will be tougher to know who has a great arm and whose arm looks weak or tired.

Akron extended buyout offers to 47% of their faculty? 04-jawdrop 04-jawdrop 04-jawdrop

Usually in situations like this, you cast an overly wide net as many faculty will not accept the buyout. So if you want 30ish% to accept, for example, you ask 47%.

But still, that is a staggering portion of their faculty. I don't know how much faculty they actually plan to give the buyouts to, but it's a terrifying number.

$15 million off their budget... wow. Apparently Akron has a LOT of debt from capital/building spending within the past 20ish years.
