I have a lot of friends at VCU and agree! Also the AD at VCU places in each contract with the HC that if they leave the new team they are the HC at is contractually required to give VCU a home and away game within a specific number of years of being hired.

I like Jamion too. What would entice him to leave what he is building? Would we pay substantially more than Siena?
Didn't Mt St Mary's fire him and just started with Sienna?

Not that I'm aware of. They finished 3rd in conference with 18 wins the year he left.

I think they were shocked when he bolted.

I unsuccessfully tired to find salary info for him at Siena. He was just under $200k at Mt. St. Mary's. So, I think the draw (unless we're increasing salary) is CAA > NEC.

It's a valid point though, maybe we couldn't entice him. But I think there are definitely some reasons he would work for us. But, in the above scenario maybe he's the "post JTIII" option.

RE: Reset Page - MBB
Some opinion on social media that if JTIII has to interview with a pool of other candidates at GW, likewise W&M, that there would be no chance.

Jamion is from New Kent, but has a $1 mill buyout at Siena, as if our budget issues aren't difficult enough.

With 24+ openings already and growing, including GW, Wake Forest, St. Joe's, competition is heating up fast.

I hope for the program's sake, Huge did already have an all but announced choice prior to not retaining Tony. If not, then I'm afraid we will be sailing away from the mark very quickly, and the change will be an even bigger mistake. JT III and Nathan Davis would have been in striking distance of the CAA women's tournament this past weekend. Odom would have been in Vermont.

Odom's base salary is $425,000 with a lot of additional incentives, plus his buyout is $225,000/year. I see Wake Forest, in his Dad's path (if not Mike Young.)

Levelle Moton and UVA's Jason Williford are other names, but if we are having to move further down the totem pole, then I dunno.

Has anyone seen a concrete plan on how we increase our basketball budget? I don't understand how we're supposed to pay for some of these names. Especially if we have the buyout to contend with.

I think the only real way to increase the AD budget is to get more money from the college. If Rowe is fully behind the hoops program she has the ability to allocate her money differently, cut academic programs, etc.

Bake sales.

In all seriousness, this all eventually ends in the school cutting a number of sports. The pie's not growing, so the only other option is to cut the pie into fewer slices.

If JTIII is hired and thought is he is using us for a stepping stone, we better add that nice buy out into the contract that everyone else seems to. We are going to need that million to pay back Shaver.

If we are trying to use the VCU model of our job being a stepping stone up the career ladder, then their approach of guaranteed games against the new school as home/away is more appealing than a buy out to attract a coach.

This makes me wonder. I know he made a lot at Georgetown, but what does a USA National Team assistant coach make? I can't imagine it's all that much, right?

What's the big appeal of Jamion Christian? I know he was an assistant here/recruited Thornton, but he's been average at Mt. St Mary's and Siena. His best season was 20-16, and his overall record is 118-11, 51.5%.

Agreed. I also don't understand why we'd fire Tony and then take someone from his coaching tree.

I'm sure we would pay more than his team USA gig. That's not the issue. The issue is if we can pay him more than the other college suitors.

John Thompson III's net worth is estimated at $9 mill. His salary at Georgetown was $3.6 mill plus, so his net worth is probably well north of that. I don't think any choice he makes will be about the pay.

JTIII seems to be passing on GW and aiming for a better job, so there's almost no way that he's taking the WM opening.

And if we're cutting sports and using that to invest in basketball that's excellent news. This is definitely the place that funding will have the biggest impact on the school, and now it's time to have a real program and actually compete (in terms of resources). Important to give the next coach as strong a chance as possible at building on our growth on the court.

I was listening to The Team 980 today up in DC today, and Doc Walker interviewed Ronny Thompson. At the end of the interview they talked about JT3 and what he was up to. Ronny said that he was really energized and ready to get back into coaching. He mentioned that it was a crime that he has been out of coaching for two years. Sounds like he's making himself a hot commodity.

OT: Fairleigh Dickinson PG, Jahlil Jenkins, has amazing ball-handling skills and can pass and shoot with the best of them. Very similar to Steph Curry. Kid is on fire.

6', 160 from Ranson, WV and played his HS ball in Virginia. Only a sophomore.

Hate that Belmont has to play this extra game. Hope they can pull this out.
