RE: NCAA tournament.....
ESPN ranked the field of 68 coaches according to their playing careers (or lack of).

Give this one a look and scroll down to #41. Most of us on the board already know it of course, but there's some UNCW references for us all to enjoy. Notably, a lesser known fact among some our more recent fans is that his head recruiter, Joel Justus, played here in the early 2000s.

With those names, it's tough to argue against #1. I loved Mullen growing up

My dad's side of the family are from Indiana, and both my grandparents were IU grads. We had IU and Bobby Knight memorabilia, books, calendars, posters, athletic gear. When Christmas came around, I knew I was getting at least ONE present related to Indiana basketball. Nobody even thought to mutter any sort of anti-Knight sentiment in the houses.

Only problem was the 1990s came to town, and my brother and I grew up in the great basketball state of North Carolina. Naturally, we departed from our strict allegiance to all things Indiana and chose our NC teams; my brother chose Duke as his team and I chose UNC. We never went full tilt with the need to obsess and purchase everything we could related to those schools, but outside of playground pride neither of us have a connection to those schools like our grandparents in Indiana.

All that being said, my favorite players as a kid (prior to being a UNC fan) were Damon Bailey and Calbert Cheaney. Even while Bailey was a junior and senior though, I was already starting to follow UNC during the years of Antawn Jamison and Jerry Stackhouse.

Good read about the coaches. I actually had no idea Calipari went to UNCW.

Nevertheless, I apologize for bringing up UNC because I don’t care for a UNC vs anyone else pissing match. We have other spots to do that (Bird Droppings or OT threads, for the new folks).

No pissing match needed. They are very good this year and have a legit chance to run the table(unfortunately). The Duke -UNC thing must have made for some fun battles growing up.

He still comes back to reunions of the guys he played with. Plus one of his present day assistants, Joel Justus (a former UNCW player) is the son of John Justus the UNCW SID while Calipari was at the Dub.

RE: NCAA tournament.....
Since games have begun both in the NCAA and NIT, just a little update...

It's all up to Northeastern to make a positive showing for the CAA after Hofstra went down in Raleigh to NCSU.

Can the Huskies drop Kansas?

It's possible, but not likely. Kansas is down this season, but they're still Kansas. Kind of reminds me of when UNCW took on Duke in 2016.

RE: NCAA tournament.....
If their 3's are falling they can definitely beat this Kansas team. They run a good system that could give trouble, but if they are not hitting they are likely not beating Kansas.

Yesterday around 5/5:30 on ESPN Northeastern got some good run as they interviewed Calhoun on their full day of tournament coverage or whatever they called it. Had a nice discussion about Northeastern and what chances they had etc. That would not have happened if it had been Hofstra representing us, so that is a positive.

I just posted a poll and "Game Thread" on the CAA Conference Talk forum.

There have been some close games this afternoon. If you have DirecTV ch 702 has a mix channel showing all the games.

Bradley leading Michigan St. at the half. Belmont leading Maryland (though that's less surprising).

Northeastern-Kansas tipping off at 4:24.

Bill Self has an .818 winning % at Kansas. That's nuts.
