Where should the MWC tournament be held?
I believe attendance was 8,000-9,000 again for the MWC tournament at Thomas & Mack.

Should the MWC tournament move? Should it move to the Strip? Or should it find an entirely new permanent venue? Or maybe rotate?

Possible venues:

Las Vegas - Thomas & Mack Center (alternates would be Mandalay Bay Events Center, MGM Grand Garden Arena)
San Diego - Pechanga Arena (Viejas Arena as another option)
Albuquerque - The Pit or Tingley Coliseum
Denver - Pepsi Center

Other cities: Salt Lake City (Vivint Smart Home Arena), Phoenix (Talking Stick Resort Arena or Gila River Arena), Boise (Taco Bell Arena or Ford Idaho Center), Reno (Reno Events Center)

They seem to have a good thing in Vegas, so no.

Ixnay on San Diego. Very few basketball fans in SD outside of SDSU fans, and the arena is awful and in a bad neighborhood. SDSU has a nice arena but it's 5 miles inland and would be a huge home court advantage.

Thomas & Mack. I’m not familiar with the other Vegas locations, but I know a bunch of conferences were in Vegas this year so it’s probably one of the most fun college basketball experiences with all the different fan bases.

They're holding the MWC tournament one week earlier next year to avoid conflict with a large convention the following week, but staying at the T&M.

Las Vegas has a zillion hotel rooms, and no doubt the MWC decisionmakers like spending a week in Vegas that they can charge to their expense accounts, so the tournament will probably stay there.

8-9k per game seems like pretty solid numbers for the MWC honestly. I doubt they'd draw more elsewhere.

AAC championship - between the 1 and 2 seeds - drew 7,200. A-10 drew 8,300 for the championship.

I voted for San Diego because I like visiting there that time of year. Some great parks in the region to visit, as well as San Diego itself.

I find Las Vegas boring, and everyone is always there. Denver and Albuquerque are fine once in awhile, but not on a regular or recurring basis.

Las Vegas is the ideal place for the MW. They have had in Denver before but Vegas seems to be the best place right now.

Didn't the original WAC have it a couple years at the Delta Center?

1993 and 1994 - yes.

In the 1980s and early 1990s, the WAC tourney went from campus-to-campus in something that was close to a rotation (Hawaii, SDSU and AFA never hosted, but the other 6 WAC teams did).

From 1993-1999 (the mid-and-late 1990s), they settled on a few sites (Albuquerque, SLC and Vegas).

I like the idea of it being a week earlier without much competition besides WCC Quarterfinals. I think that's much better than fighting with the PAC-12 & WAC for attendance.

Interesting Phoenix was interested in hosting, I think that would have been a good site, but there's no member schools in the area.
