California DMV to be audited after lawmakers become suspicious of voter fraud
California....voter fraud

Quote:"The problems with motor voter have risen to such a degree that there is a bipartisan effort in this," said Assemblyman Jim Patterson (R-Fresno).

The department has admitted mishandling voter registration information for 23,000 drivers and double-registering as many as 77,000 others.

Quote:"The errors include registering 16-year-olds to vote. We have numbers of people who had their registration changed without their approval or knowledge, and actually sending them ballots they could vote through the mail," he said.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Become suspicious?! Now? This seems like a rush to judgement. Maybe they need to take it slow.

LOL...audit the CA DMV.

There isn't a less efficient governmental entity on the face of the planet.

Voter fraud, especially in mail in ballots, is as big as Texas.

Who didn't see this coming? It was in fact the primary objection to it when it was started.

Nah,

We've been told repeatedly, for years, that this stuff doesn't happen. Wonder how many congressional districts they'll end up losing? 07-coffee3

I'm sure all that late voting was 100% above board.

I meant to post this a while back and just forgot about it. But hey, why not?

Quote:"The problems with motor voter have risen to such a degree that there is a bipartisan effort in this," said Assemblyman Jim Patterson (R-Fresno).
That’s sort-of true, and sort-of not-true.

As the CA GOP slides ever-deeper into political irrelevance (approaching Libertarian/Green levels of who-gives-a-damn), the CA Dems are — simply by osmosis — going to attract some voters here and there who are concerned about transparency and ethics in government.

But that’s not really the same thing as saying that the CA Dems are interested — as a political party — in the issue, or are going to help out except in the most extreme/embarrassing cases.

Wait, weren't we told that with their new law there existed no potential for something such as this?

The idea that a state where mail-in ballots and ballot harvesting is legal is going to take a motor voter fraud investigation serious is laughable.

In the words of Brother Dave Gardner, "I know how to reduce crime. Make everything legal. Then you won't have any crime."

Well as Republicans become irrelevant in CA, the Democrats start to care about the issue because its other Democrats cheating them.

RE: California DMV to be audited after lawmakers become suspicious of voter fraud
The California DMV is corrupt as hell.

When I moved to CA 4 years ago, I waited more than 20 days to register my car. That meant we owed about $200 in late fees. When my wife went to register the car, the DMV employee said she was raising money for her son's youth sporting league and said that if my wife made a donation, she'd waive the late fee. After making sure that this was a quid-pro-quo, my wife decided to donate $5 to get the fee waived.

Since then, we found out that many of our friends also had this happen to them.

Yes, the CA DMV routinely asks for bribes.

RE: California DMV to be audited after lawmakers become suspicious of voter fraud
More issues with CA DMV:

Car registration in CA is ridiculously expensive (ours was about $150 per year for each car, and our cars were worth under $5k). But not everyone has to get their car registered.

The DMV has set up a system that is free for well-connected people (in this case, car dealers and multimillionaires) and hundreds of dollars a year for everyone else.

Why so many cars in California don't have license plates - LA Times

Quote:In California, new-car buyers are issued temporary registration that gets tucked away in a corner of the front windshield. They have 90 days to get their permanent license plates installed. In the meantime, they're free to drive around without any means of being identified by law enforcement officials or other drivers.

It's said that Apple's Steve Jobs got away with never having license plates on his leased Mercedes by trading it in every few months.

I'd estimate that more than 5% of cars in CA don't have license plates, and thus avoid paying any registration/renewal fees.
