We should probably beat someone OOC and finish better than 5th in our conference.
Has anyone not noticed that the NCAA tournament has left out more mid majors over the last few years?
Has anyone not noticed that NIT slots are being taken by some conference regular season champs who didn't win their conference tournament?
Has anyone not noticed that this has led to a shortage of available NIT bids?
Has anyone not noticed that even mid level P5 teams get these available slots over possibly deserving mid majors?
The current state of affairs can best be summed up by this:
New Mexico State went 30-4 and was a 12 seed. Meaning they would not have received an at-large selection had they not won their tournament, even though they have 30 wins and their only "bad" loss was to the same St. Mary's team that just blew out Gonzaga.

That’s probably bad.
It will be played at the Newark, NJ YMCA Gym.
bruh for real? I'm in Philly and I could get a crew for that game. Are there tickets?

I agree with your premise, but it does seem as though NET has helped with this. I don't think Belmont, Temple or VCU make it in if they're using the same criteria as last year. We also saw that the committee had UNCG slated for a bid prior to Oregon winning the PAC12 tournament.
I think the committee also showed that you need to really challenge yourself in OOC after leaving NCSU out. Also that 20 game conference slates weren't a good choice for the "power" conferences...but I'm getting off topic here.
Really glad to see the team decide to go into the CBI. I hope it turns into a good momentum builder for next year.

The OVC got two bids. The Southern would have had two bids but for some bad luck. At least they were in the mix. Both of those leagues are within CUSA's footprint and have members in our state (one in our city).
The Emperor of Conference Excuses has no clothes.

Teams like Wofford, Ga State, Murray State, UNC Greensboro, Belmont, New Mexico State, Buffalo, Utah State are who we should be talking to trying to schedule home and home series with. I know theres no guarantee of success in future years for these teams, but the majority of them are good more than they are bad. We also need to be willing to go on the road to Power 5 schools. Most of the teams I mentioned put together respectable schedules that got them in the discussion for an at large. We should be able to do the same.

RE: Anyway we get in the NIT?
It appears the selection committee finally put more stock in mid majors going 2-2, 3-2, 2-1 versus quadrant 1 than the power 5 team that goes 3-10 against that group. It was pretty consistent across the board, and I’m a fan of this. If that trend continues it will really help CUSA get a shot at two bids in the future.
As far as the NIT we used to make it because we were a top 50ish RPI and beat some top 100 teams. We are sitting in the 150ish range these days. That explains it in a nutshell.
